Don't worry, runner's up earned us more millions than Jose's team's can manage shots on target in 180 minutes against Sevilla.

Well, you can be a bit reactionary and go off the deep end at times.

Seriously though - everyone's issue with City was that they started spending out of nowhere - no real revenue jump, its not like they sold players, etc. Its become just natural to blame prices on them - the flashy guy who throws around money, especially earlier than a lot of other people will always take the heat.

Liverpool's net spend is still nowhere near City. Doesn't mean we're not spending the big bucks. But the money has also become insane. Neymar last year changed things in a huge way. Cou's sale only reinforced it.

And again - anyone who thinks that Klopp was speaking earnestly about how he would spend money like that is a moron. Klopp was using the press to send a message.

I mean geez - a week ago he was telling people that Ward (now our fourth string GK) would be given a shot as the number 1 keeper. You guys believe he didn't know then that we were going in for Allison?

Damn. Lot's of real estate in ya'lls head.

Pogba is now a "match winner" and VdV and Allison are not? De Gea isn't a match winner? People know we made 140MM cash on Coutinho, of course we're going to get butt raped. Add in the obvious desperation for a CB last year and now a keeper after CL final and you get some big arse prices.

Who wouldn't love this dude. Not even worried about winning shite, fun as hell to watch and the players love him.

DDG cost no where near double the world record for a GK

I mean, he's failing at making a barb about where we finished in the Champions League. My retort was on that point. you bring up something completely different.

Doesn't chap me at all. I've posted a bunch for years about my love/hate for Jose. I don't always love his tactics (even if its a meme and he doesn't park as much as we love to say), but he's a pragmatic winner and, when he has stars that buy in, gets the most out of a lot of players. Except for those times he has his year 3 meltdowns. What year is he coming into at Manu again?

And you bought him how many years ago?

The world record at the time was still about double what he cost.

I mean, our 4th string GK just went for the 19th highest price for a GK ever. The overall market is just busted.

true, but there just aren't that many elite GKs out there for sale... If you want one, you will pay through the nose... It took ~17 years to break the Buffon record... Unless PSG triggers Oblak's buyout, Im guessing the Alisson record will stand for quite some time..

Sorry, I didn't make my thoughts clear. I wasn't arguing against you, just pointing out that the market is bizarre.

Our fourth string GK just went for 2/3 of what DDG did 7 years ago.

Jurgen Klopp has defended the £67million signing of Alisson - and believes that the particularities of the goalkeeping market are 'different' to other positions following criticism over supposed hypocrisy.

The Anfield club splashed out a world-record sum for a goalkeeper in bringing the Brazilian to Anfield from Roma after making Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender of all-time in January.

The price for every position is inflating. But they doubled the world record fee one year later.

It baffles me that he won't just own it. You have money and you spent it on a critical piece of your puzzle. He absolutely makes your team better. He doesn't need to be ashamed, this just makes the hypocrisy look worse.
