Of course they will. But then they will give a full page to Raheem Sterling's car being dirty.

SCH, you left out the best part of Klopp's argument:

quote:

"Everybody thinks it's a lot of money. It is a lot of money," Klopp said. "But he could've left for crazy money. "The clause for Oblak for example is €100m, so nice!"

A fricking buy-out clause is not the same thing as the actual value of a player. That's like saying Isco is worth 700MM.

So you think Atletico would’ve sold for less than that?

My point is merely if they weren't gonna sell for less than that, then that's what he's worth to them

How do we know? Did Liverpool ever make a move for him? Was there any interest at all? It is a ridiculous argument to make.

Of course it's a hypothetical, but compared Oblak going for 100m to Isco going for 700m is just as ridiculous

I don't think it is.

If that's the case then go ahead and argue to make yourself feel better

Were you trying to prove your point or mine?

That's what the link was for. How exactly did that prove your point?

Ah, yeah.

Because his release clause is in fantasy land. Just like Isco's.

This line from your article referencing Oblak cracked me up:

quote:

Liverpool will simply refuse to pay that figure - more than double the current world record fee for a goalkeeper.

That was just the journalist adding fluff to the article

Obviously we were willing to pay hefty (not that hefty since we refused to pay when Roma was asking for 100 and 75m initially.

The fee is what we were willing to pay to get him... I don't care in the market we're in today...

All I'm interested in now is if he performs well... if he does, I don't care if it was 40, 50, 60 or 70..

The GK market is a lot different to other positions, IMO.. There were only 1 or 2 options available for us that were clear upgrades and 1 was more expensive..

edit: with our trouble at keeper, I'm glad we didn't try and experiment on guys they think MAY improve us.. we've been burned on that the past couple of times..

Agree. You got your guy, now it's just about performance.

All of this. Which is why we did the same thing with VVD and so far I’m pleased with the way that turned out

He's gotten the squad to a point where he can target specific and clear upgrades on need positions... And are revenue is at a point where we can afford to do this... hopefully, the scatter shot approach to player recruitment is over..

Gianluigi Buffon was bought by Juventus in 2001 for 52M euro. At that time, that was equal to 46.8M dollars.

46.8M 2001 dollars = 66.3M 2018 dollars ( https://www.dollartimes.com/inflation/inflation.php?amount=100&year=1999)

Alisson's fee was 72.5M euro = 84.5M 2018 dollars

I'm not surprised, due to player inflation and huge TV contracts for leagues, that Liverpool had to pay an 18M premium in 2018 over that of a comparable transfer in 2001.

Buffon was bought for like £34 million

The standard for transfers, and back the the euro was no where near as strong as it is now.

You guys basically doubled the Emerson fee still
