A crew cab short bed truck is 20ft. Figure 12ft for doors comfortably per car but you have overlap in the center. The key is is having either a lot of depth or width for storage beyond that

Mine is 40x40 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Tractor, Ranger, car and truck fit in it without any problem at all.

Don’t fall into the trap of the builder charging you per SF of the garage like it is the finished part of the house. Had a guy quote me $270 a SF for a carport like it was part of the custom built house. frick that guy. He didn’t get the job.

Why not a 3 car garage?

3 car garage will look better than 2 car garage on the listing when you go to sell the house later on.

Don’t go with 2 bays. Go with the big door. The middle space just gets wasted with 2 bays.

Mine is 30x24, I have one side with offset enclosed storage and a space for my lawnmower.

I also made sure I could park my SUV with rear gate open and it doesn't hit the closed garage door. I go in and out of my car atleast daily. I'd be pissed if I had to open my garage every time I opened the back of my car. 09 Yukon fit more snugly than 17 Tahoe. I think tahoe is more narrow, but just as long.

Disagree. We have 2 doors now and are shopping for a new house. 2 doors at the new house is a plus for us. If you are looking to have space to actually open doors, its unusable space anyway. Some people actually prioritize the garage as a car parking spot.

Cant get this to rotate, but this is an old pic of our garage. Now has an F150 and an SUV that park and can both open doors. There are storage racks on the other side of the Tahoe in this pic, a water softening system, and some other random stuff. Most stuff is stored on the shelf above the doors (we do have huge ceilings which helps storage. Recommend if possiible). With the F150 backed in there is room to walk around back with tailgate down. I'll grab dimensions when I remember. Only problem is on the side with the car, the corner juts in where the utility room door is. Cant park the truck on that side. You can, but literally have an inch on both sides.

Outside of cosmetic looks, what does 2 doors do for you over 1? I hate having a post in the middle unless its necessary.

So many builders are doing 21’x 22’ and it does not work! It’s not even close.
Never heard of this small. Trac builders? I’m currently building a custom and they have a 30’x30’ to fit a suburban and a 4 door dodge dually. It fits them both with plenty of room.

The single door for a 2 car garage is a tighter fit to actually get 2 vehicles in. The 2 separate doors allows you to easily pull in and be far away from the car next to you. Maybe they make really wide single doors, but most couldn't fit my truck and wife's SUV through at the same time. We'd have to angle in.

Seems like you should ask an architect as building a new structure like that will require permitting.

I can see about 4 feet between your vehicles. Single bay with the same width on your garage you gain a foot of space. So that corner is much less of an issue

Are you saying if I use a single bay, I can park the cars closer together? I don't want to park them closer together. I like being able to fully open doors. If I had a single bay, I'd angle the cars apart to still have that freedom. It's not big enough to open both vehicles doors in the middle at the same time, but you can open each vechile completely doing it one at a time. Tailgates, rear hatch, everything. It's a length issue on that one side and that's it. That corner covers about 75% of that side, so moving over 2' doesn't help anyway. I was in the doorway taking that picture.

Would build the same way again if given the option. Just remove that small section and shrink the laundry room (which has too much space as it is).

You can still do that with 3 feet instead of 4+

I’ve built houses with both and for usable space options the single door is far superior.
