My mind keeps going back to video rental stores. Renting a video game/movie on the weekend used to be an event to look forward to.

I think streaming services like Amazon Video have replaced the need to rent physical copies of films (I hate Redbox), but there's literally no way to rent video games outside of the paltry selection offered by Redbox.

Do you think opening a real arcade in today's world would be successful? Sort of always been in the back of my mind, but beyond the novelty factor, they all closed down for a reason.

I think the reason people are opening arcade/bars are because the only interest in this is nostalgia...and the people nostalgic about it now want a beer

Not if you fill the arcade with Time Limited games. Those type of constant quarter refill games are what helped speed the demise of arcade games.

Arcade makers got greedy. They were doomed no matter what but time limited games sure didn't help. Lots of Adult Arcades are full of these same time limited bs games with ridiculous prices.

Nostalgia arcades can really only survive is large cities and even then, I doubt they make much money.

I think us older guys would go back just for nostalgia a few times but dont think it would last because kids these days have better games like this at home. they can play on 65 inch high def tvs with consoles that are just as good as the arcade games these days. For us it was cool to go hang out at the arcade with friends just to get out of the house. Now they dont want to leave the house because they have the arcade there

I’ll call you on 3 way, then you call ???? On 3 way, then he can call ???? On 3 way, and on and on....

The amount of friends on one line was endless as long as everyone knew how to call on 3 way. We once had 25 people on one line. Great times!

We have an 80’s themed pizza place. It has a decent arcade in it. My son was amazed at the games and could not believe how well I played Defender.

Going to a gas station and while pumping your gas, the attendant cleaned your windshield and checked the oil and fluids.
