Has anyone watched this?
One season. It's in French with subtitles.
I have watched 3 of the 6 episodes. I find it to be pretty damn good.

Started episode 1 last night. Fell asleep because I couldn’t understand what they were saying.

Watched it all. I thought it was pretty good. If you can get used to subtitles there are some pretty good foreign series out there. The Break is another one. The Forest is my favorite genre- the foreign detective- serial killer story. Not bad at all.

If was really good. Started it last week and finished this weekend. Lol at people who complain about subtitles.

I watch a lot of foreign movies with subtitles and don't have any problems.

I'll have to make sure to check this show out.

I'd rather watch a movie in a language I know I don't know than a movie in a language I thought I knew.

A lot of British and Irish and Scottish movies I have to turn subtitles on - especially the worst offender was probably Snatch.

The only foreign films that sometimes get annoying after awhile are old Italian films...because they talk so damn fast and always seem to be screeching at each other - the subtitles stay on the screen for about 2 seconds. She shouts out a paragraph and each sentence you only have enough time to read the first two words before the next sentence.

But the all-time worst is watching an American movie in Japan with Japanese vertical subtitles covering half the screen.

Agree with this poster. Add the Forest to this long list of very good European detective series:

The Fall
Marcella
Loch Ness
Paranoid
Dr. Foster (not a detective series, but still a mystery)
The Tunnel
Collateral
The Missing

Still haven't seen Luther, Happy Valley or River

Is there not an English audio dub option?

Loved some of the others you mentioned. Happy Valley is awesome. River is good. Haven’t watched Luther. Did you see The Case? Hinterland also very good. I’ve seen so many I can’t recall them all.

Both are great. If you like case Other really good Icelandic shows are Trapped on amazon prime, and Lava Field on Netflix.

how does this compare with the German show "Dark"? It seems like it has the same general premise of a kid going missing in a European town (of course with Dark it was much more convoluted).

Like many on here, I found Dark much easier to watch by leaving it in German and reading subtitles than it was trying to listen to the terrible English dubbing.

I do not know as I have not seen Dark, but it does have a striking resemblance to The Missing, where an English kid goes missing in a small French town.

Also, I’m three episodes in on Finnish detective thriller Deadwind and it is fantastic. The Nordic countries simply excel in the art of the noir.

Glad I found this thread. Been looking for some real good recs on these types. I’ve just finished The Forest and then Trapped. Both were very good. I was like, where have I seen this Andri(Trapped) guy before...very familiar. Then bam...Dewall from True Detective S1. LOL. He’s a damn good actor.

Starting Dark now, but will circle back around for more of the Nordic shows after.
