Looking to purchase this bad boy LINK
How much can I run with it? I am told that it can handle a small ac unit. Have any of you ran a ac on it? How did it perform? How big of a unit can be ran on it?

I just bought a 110 volt window A/C unit when my HVAC was out for 4 days. The 5000 BTU window unit uses 4 amps or 480 watts. The unit you linked 2200 watts. Home Depot is the only box store that I have found that lists some window A/C amps in the specifications.

Great generator, had the EU200, but upgraded to the EU3000. Look at it this way it would run whatever you can plug into a typical 20 amp home receptacle without tripping the breaker, the 2200 will obviously handle more. During hurricane outage I ran a 5000 Btu window unit, standard refrigerator, and some lights on mine. Starting current of appliances with motors is the critical thing, my frig draws about 11 amps at start up and 7 amps running, the AC is about 8 amps starting and 4 or 5 running, so even with a total starting current of 19 amps if both the frig and AC unit kicked on at the same time the EU2000 would handle it. IF we needed to run the coffee maker or microwave we would unplug the frig while doing so. Only down side is the fuel capacity, would run about 6 hours on a tank at the loading I described which meant if I filled it up when I went to bed, I was going to have to refuel at 5 AM. The is a ton of stuff on the web about hooking up larger external fuel tanks for extended running. You just cant go wrong with this, and how quiet they run is worth every penny of the premium price. Mayberry Sales usually has the best price with free shipping.

I have the 2000i. At the house after a hurricane we were without power for 5 days. I ran an upright freezer, side by side fridge/freezer, and a 5000 BTU window unit. Used my big generator to run other stuff.
At our lease in Mexico we hit 110F+ June- Sept. My 2000i runs the 5000 BTU window unit, 3 - 12" fans and a couple of fluorescent lights at once. When the window unit kicks on you see the drop and surge but it keeps up and everything runs.
Did some welding with a small MIG unit off the 2000i. Good for 1/8" stuff. Didn't handle 1/4" that well at all. Runs all power tools... chop saw, grinder, etc...
If all you had on the Honda was a window unit you can probably run 7500 to 8000 BTU unit. Check amp draw on the window unit and look at Honda specs. That should tell you.

A propane portable generator would be a better way to go, is it not?

I have 2 2000 and love them.
I can link them and run 4k.

I can run a 4,500 watt window unit, chest freezer, refrigerator, computer, lights in living room and office. It's not the cheapest but I bought it for low noise level since I plan to travel with it for a camper. And I bought it for reliability.
You can get one of these to test your loads:
Kill A Watt meter
it's an amp meter you plug into a wall outlet, and then plug your appliance into it to see the amp load. The Honda will handle 18 amps. My chest freezer takes 1.0 amps when it runs. I don't remember the others but I'm around 12 amps when the generator is running (very rare).

I like everything I am hearing here. I have a big portable generator that has crapped out and will need something for power outages. I will probably buy 2 of these Honda’s. I know it is a good bit more expensive than others but you can’t beat the reputation. How easy is it to start? Is the recoil very hard? Just want to be sure my 80 year old dad can start it if I am not around.

Incredibly easy, my wife who has little upper body strength could start it easily, usually less than a full pull starts it. When storing it is best to empty any remaining fuel, since the tank is so small no a big issue, then start it and let it run the carburetor dry, when stored in this manner I never had any problem with it starting the next time I used it.

That is what I did with my old generator. I just run it dry. Unfortunately it now only puts out it electricity on one outlet. The other 110 and 220 quit. If I could find someone to fix it, it would cost more than it is worth.

I'd wait until a couple hundred hours of service before declaring it the best

Nearly half the price, more power, led gauges w fuel, power time remaining. More fuel efficient, same size, maybe quieter... come at me bro

Nobody makes better engines than Honda. Nobody. Your gauges will read zero when your engine fails to start.
A back up emergency generator HAS TO START. Nothing else matters.

No thanks. I am buying Honda.

Still waiting for the review.

I got it and started it. It started perfectly. Gauges are great. I put a 6 gal porter cable air compressor and a 20inch fan to it and it put it near 50% capacity when loading. I’ll use it more this weekend but very please with it so far. Aesthetically pleasing, awesome fuel gauge etc.
