Thompson can be that. I just feel good about Collier Cranford so I’m not willing to say Thompson would start day 1.

But he will compete for playing time for sure.

We will get to see a lot of our infield in action later this week when the south Florida league starts games. Doughty and Cranford are on the same team. Zack Arnold is also in that league. I can’t wait to see a little more on him.

Kentucky will probably lose one of their JUCO pitcher recruits (but half their team is in the transfer portal too, because their coach is an imbecile).

Nothing necessarily happened, Mingione just sucks and players are leaving in droves. He’s run that program into the ground from where Cohen and then Henderson had it. He’s also not well liked among other sec coaches.

Will Safford was scheduled to play in the now canceled prospect league this summer. He’s now playing in the newly created SECL. It’s the same league Brooks Rice is playing in, but Rice will be in the Mississippi division, Safford in the Baton Rouge one. I believe they will play at Traction.

Do any of you guys see LSU taking a grad transfer IF or DH type for some offense.

Crews replaces Cabrera, I get that. Drost may play. But we would still be playing several regulars who just have not hit at the college level.

I don't see us going after any grad transfers. There haven't been many worth exploring. We looked at one, Lael Lockhart, a two-way player going from Houston to Arkansas. There were a few other pitchers that looked like they could play but we have a ton of pitchers already. And the only position players that seemed worth going after are at positions we already have guys at, like 2nd base.

On a summer ball update note, I just found a few incoming freshmen on a roster in the Florida Collegiate League. On the Sanford River Rats, Brody Drost, Dylan Crews, and Drew Romo are scheduled to play there.

Interesting on Romo if he's headed to summer ball

I think Cranford will be the everyday SS
Still competition at 2B and 3B - Doughty most likely remains at 2B but PM puts a premium on defense and he will have to field that position flawlessly
Mathis is ok at 3rd but I could see someone like Arnold or Thompson beating him out
Depending on how OF shakes out I could also see Dugas competing at 3rd or 2nd

Gio most likely in CF
Hampton will compete for OF spot, has all the tools but football will always prevent that elite development
Sanford showed a little bit before season ended as well
Crews will compete in RF
Not sure where Drost ends up position wise and if PM develops him on the mound, Drost has Cabrera type power though

Makhail Hilliard and Mitchell Sanford just showed up on the Acadiana Cane Cutters roster. I know we have some guys playing for the BR Rougarou as well, but they haven't posted their roster yet.

And the Northwoods league still hasn't switched to the 2020 rosters yet. They're trying to start playing next month and we have a ton of guys scheduled to go up there, including a lot of pitchers.

After reading the FanGraphs draft primer this morning, I've got a whole new thing to track in the aftermath of the draft.

Japanese teams are heavily scouting college players (mostly pitchers) with the expectation of offering $200,000 to $300,000 signing bonuses. Those players could reach free agency quicker in Japan than in the US. I don't know if we have anyone that would be a target for that, but I definitely am interested in seeing who gets targeted.

Also, it looks like the Angels might be punting on the draft and taking a guy in the first round that they have no intention of signing.

Just based on what people are saying now, do you think it’s likely that Romo comes to school? I know the general consensus is that if he falls past the second, he’s going to LSU, but I don’t know how likely that is.

We don't know what his number is, but at least one (and probably more than that) publication dropped him down their draft ranking list based on signability and the likelihood he gets to campus. Those types of decisions are made after talking with scouts, front office people, coaches (college and pro), and agents.

We might only have two or three signees not come to school, then. Crazy stuff. Hope we can get Way on campus.

I don’t know what their total pool is but the cardinals has 7 picks, including 5 in the top 100. It’s conceivable they could make it work.
