Only a drunk woman would’ve come up with a topic this stupid.

Haven’t read much about Sherman. But I am well read on Thomas Jackson and I would put money on him. Even with a smaller force of men that Had been fighting with him. He would lure Sherman into a trap. The man even retreated “victoriously”.
Had he not been shot he would have taken the high ground at Gettysburg and won that battle.
He would have burned DC to the ground within a few weeks.
And he would have done it earlier (almost two years earlier) with permission from his higher ups.
Stonewall was an impressive general.

I mean, it's no "CFA is orgasmic" thread, but it's a good topic.
Except confederate fans don't want to compare their hero-god to Sherman.
I can understand why.

Sherman couldn’t cut it at LSU and withdrew.
All that you need to know. Stonewall would have at least gotten his undergrad.

Stonewall was a professor at VMI. He would shite on LSU.

Dumb arse.
He was here for a few semesters and ran home screaming for mommy.

I think you’re wrong on that bud

Nope.
Sherman couldn’t cut it at LSU.
Got hemeroidal butt hurt and tried to erase his transcripts by arson.
Some bitch should be brought up on charges but the statue of limitations expired.

In a battle or a series of battles/campaign? Single battle, Stonewall Jackson was probably the best in the entire war. As far as being a commander over a series of battles I would pick Sherman. Main reason I say this is his command of the evolving military machine was very strong. He understood logistics and the power of wisely dividing your troops on the offensive to accomplish more objectives. As far as traditional post-Napoleonic battlefield tactics, there was no one better than Stonewall.

Jackson's Valley Campaign is still the stuff of military legend. Still studied to this day at military schools around the world. Moving thousands of men, horses and wagons, hundreds of miles over short periods of time to the degree it was done was all but unheard of then.
Yes, he was a slave driver and demanded much of his men. However, he wouldn't ask them to do something he wouldn't do himself and on several occasions during the Valley Campaign, he would dismount at a deep mud hole and help push horses and wagons through.
As a point of fact during that year of the war, Jackson was the most feared man amongst not only the northern army but the northern press. Papers in Philly, New York and Baltimore all ran front page stories on the Union's inability to pin him down.
When Lee was appointed to command the Army of Northern Virginia, many northern military leaders were stunned that Davis had not picked Jackson.
Of all my studies and research, I have to say that I've always been most impressed with Jackson. More so than Lee, Longstreet, Grant or Sherman.

Sherman skedaddled from Manassas with his tail between his legs.

Before Stonewall Jackson was shot by his own men in May 1863, Sherman had been proclaimed one of the heroes of the Battle of Shiloh
At the time of his death Jackson was the most well known military commander in the world. In. The. World. His name was all over Europe.

Why don't you read up on his performance during the Battle of the Seven Days in June 1862?
You talking about the Seven Days battle in which Jackson was so sick with fever that he was hallucinating? I think he gets a pass for that one. His only subpar performance in a battle in my opinion is his actions during Antietam.
But I digress, Sherman was one hell of a general and one of the best commanders of the Civil War, but Thomas Jackson is the best commander that America has ever produced.

All things being equal, give me Stonewall.

I can’t wait for all the melty little bitches this thread has the chance to produce.
And for the record, Sherman would burn that mother down too. A great American.
I love the internet badasses that think that simply "picking a winner" of 2 people they've never met, nor have any clue of their war tactics, makes them somehow, tough. Grow up pussy. No one cares about your e-cred.

Bring it.
You see. This is the internet bravado i was talking about. You aren't tough. You aren't edgy. You aren't brave. You started out posing an interesting question about who would win a battle between the 2 generals.
What you didn't do is provide anything other than the generals. You didn't provide location, force size, supply, time of year, etc... You didn't discuss military tactics each general used.
No, this thread was started by you, to make yourself seem non-conformist and cool. You failed by all accounts. Maybe grow up and learn to be an adult and have conversations with people?
Nah, that's too hard. Better to fling shite like a monkey.

When Grant assumed the U.S. presidency in 1869, Sherman succeeded him as Commanding General of the Army, in which capacity he served from 1869 until 1883. As such, he was responsible for the U.S. Army's engagement in the Indian Wars over the next 15 years. Sherman advocated total war against hostile Indians to force them back onto their reservations.
Now you're in a pickle. You just praised someone who subjugated a group of people based on the color of their skin. Why are you such a racist?

Right, but which Sonic is going to host this hands-throwing?
