I'm just saying he hasn't done much of note at LSU. His top three wins are over Auburn, UL & maybe a 8-5 TAMU team?

He completely squandered that Notre Dame bowl game (Granted I don't put a lot of stock in bowl victories outside of the NY6/Playoff.

we beat them or Fischer and the Aggies when we beat them? I mean all of these SEC teams from MSU to Arky, UF and A&M have all gotten big coaching upgrades so no excuse for these teams if LSU beats them right?

I'm not so sure buddy. Those are all coaches in their first year with those teams. We heard the first year excuse last year and LSU had a much better roster than all of those teams. That said, I personally won't be saying that, but it wouldn't be totally out of bounds.

We'll see what happens. I'm fully prepared for the pro-ED O propaganda to be in full effect if LSU walks into that Ole Miss game 2-2.

Oh. You and I are in total agreement. He has one win over a quality team. I'm hoping he has the coaching staff fixed and I think the roster upgrades speak for themselves. I'm cautiously a bit optimistic.

Should swap Kirby and Jimbo, but other than that kind of sort of seems accurate.

But there's that word. Excuse. Injuries were an excuse. Inexperience was an excuse. New staff was an excuse.

I think there's a middle ground between "reason" and "excuse". Some do not. So I'm going to hold myself and others to the zero sum standard of "no excuse". It doesn't matter if we have a new QB, new starting 2 RBs, new starting WRs. That's simply an excuse. New OC? No excuse.

"Damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead!" or "Leroyyyy Jenkins!"

I agree. If it doesn't happen this year, I'm not sure what else could go in the coach's favor in the future to create a better scenario for competing for the SEC Title.

And this is the only way to improve his standing with fans and media.

He has to win consistently against top coaches and teams. That is the only way. It isn't even straight "wins" like last season, if he loses to every good coach and team on the schedule, but beats everyone else, we've got problems. If he can manage to beat just one, we still have problems. He has to figure out how to do that, and the rest will work itself out.

The list is relatively pointless, but perception is still important. If people think posts on a message board can influence coaches, and players, and recruits....

Actually, you know what? I need to be fair here. I've said multiple times that I consider the ND loss a bad loss. I'm going to give Coach O credit for beating the shite out of Louisville and completely shutting down the Heisman Trophy winner. So, 2 wins over quality teams.

I know the Louisville defense had some injuries. But, I don't except that excuse for O or Mainieri, so I'm not going to use it here either.

Matt Campbell will not be at Iowa St. much longer. Hope he's still on the market when its time for new LSU AD (hopefully Scott Woodward) to go coach shopping (2020 is my guess).

He signed a 6-year extension last fall, making the same money as Orgeron. I doubt he's in a hurry to go anywhere yet.

Hopefully Orgeron does enough to move himself up into the top 50 after this season. If not, he will not be at LSU for very much longer.

I don't think MSU upgraded. I think Moorehead will be okay, but I think Mullen is much better.

The Troy loss was inexcusable, but It's a hell of a lot harder to recover from a Troy loss than it is to lose to Troy. I would certainly give O that much. That's not an easy thing to do. He turned the team around about as good as I've ever seen anyone turn a team around.

He's 15-6 as LSU head coach (that's from memory, may be wrong). Point is, he's not doing terrible.

This year is the year to truly judge O. He claims to have the staff that he wants and it's essentially his 3rd year. I'll get back to bashing O when he doesn't live up to expectations this year (which are already slightly lower than normal).

Why are expectations lower than normal?

Edward deserves credit for keeping the team together and not letting the season come unraveled. That is not really up for debate.

However, he seems to do his best coaching after a disastrous start to a season. He's as good as anyone at rallying the troops after a poor start, but he really needs to prove that he can have the team clicking from day one. Something he has never done as a head coach.

Because our offense has been completely overhauled (damn near). It's a down year for us.

Do you think just because some rating service ranks him higher, that makes him a better coach. Seriously.

Our Offensive line isn’t completely overhauled. In fact we have two experienced freshmen who played all last year. We should have some depth and experience.
Our Qb should be an upgrade.
We lost Chark and Gage but we gain Giles and Gage isn’t exactly a big loss that can’t be easliy replaced with the talent we have.
The only question should be RB and OC play calling will be different, but improved. (If Orgeron doesn't meddle in it)

Questions, yes, but to insist it’s a complete overhaul is a stretch.

The expectations should not be lowered.
