32. Matt Campbell, Iowa State
Campbell is quickly moving up in the coaching ranks. The Ohio native guided Toledo to a 35-15 record after taking over as the program's head coach prior to the 2011 Military Bowl. Under Campbell's direction, the Rockets won at least nine games in three out of his four years. Campbell was hired at Iowa State prior to the 2016 season and finished 3-9 in his debut. However, the Cyclones showed marked improvement last fall. Campbell's team beat both Oklahoma and TCU -- the two teams that played in the Big 12 Championship Game -- en route to an 8-5 record. The eight-win season was the program's highest win total since 2000. Campbell is a rising star in the coaching ranks, and Iowa State will make plenty of noise with the Mount Union product leading the way.

Orgeron's going to beat at least 5 of those on the list ahead of him this season.
Just sayin . . .
He’s already beat quite a few ahead of him on that list....... but hey, some guy publishes a list and it’s the gospel.
Just wait till he owns Smart,Gus,and Jimbo this year...... If he gets by #1 I don’t wanna see any more hate for the man.........

He's also at a school that out recruits those other schools pretty clearly.

Why is Jimbo so high up on this list?

Also, Jeremy Pruitt could shoot way up this list if he has a good year with Tennessee.

Any list of young, up and coming college football hc? We might need it.

No, but it does speak to the disrespect he has earned in his coaching career and to the foolishness of his hire.

So he turned into Orgeron?

Well, if Athlon sports has a summer article about it, take it to the bank! ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Well, I'm sure you know a lot more than any of those know-nothing slobs. Right?

Maybe because he owns three conference titles, four divisional titles, and a NC in eight years as a head coach.
Now lets look at O. In four years as a head coach he owns a losing record.

O earned this ranking. While some LSU choose to discount 10-25, 3-21.
And discount the firing of 2 OC after his first year as HC in both places he was HC.
Most honest commentators on college football do not.
Only a handful of LSU fans are blind to the well earned reputation of our HC.
Those that ranked him low don’t have it in for O. They are not ranking him out of spite. They are ranking him based on past performance and faith (or lack thereof) that he is better now than his proven record of “success”.
The ranking is fair and O earned it.

quote:And Skip Holtz is a little underrated. He's done a damn good job with Louisiana Tech. I'd place him in the Top 40-50 range.
Totally unacceptable when La Tech's coach is ranked ahead of LSU's in any sport, much less FOOTBALL!

Well congratulations are in order for O. #81 is quite an accomplishment, since many of us had him pegged for the 100's. He's already exceeding expectations this year!

Matt Campbell will not be at Iowa St. much longer. Hope he's still on the market when its time for new LSU AD (hopefully Scott Woodward) to go coach shopping (2020 is my guess).
Here are some good reads on Campbell. Not much not to like about this guy.
