What should these countries have done in the face of imperialism and new colonists coming over with better technology to take over more land?

I don't know that it really is. If the system is the system that the people want then why are so many of them leaving? They're essentially voting with their feet.

Isn't even unusual behavior. People do that here in the United States. They run away from high tax states and then show up to the new States voting for the same shite that cause high taxes in the old place.

quote:

When people migrate from CA to TX people here say it's because they are sick of the liberal policies and high tax climate in CA. In essence they're leaving for better economic opportunity in another business climate. Voting with their feet so to speak.
except if you ask anyone in the places with large net movement of Californians to their area you discover that the frickers vote with the same patterns they voted with before they left

The bottom line is that all of the western Nations starting from very near the same starting line. So what systems they built and whether they failed or not is a product of something that came before the systems

That is one factor but it's also the out of control violence in those countries. The factions in the civil wars of the 1980's simply devolved into criminal gangs like MS 13. I think if you could tap done the violence, a good number of them would choose to stay home if it were peaceful.

You’re trying to put all the blame on these countries themselves when that simply isn’t true
it is absolutely true and nothing you said has come close to addressing it to the negative

You say they haven't had control of their situation since America came to power which begs the question why did the United States outpace them and Canada as well

now you're trying to go backwards in time. Are you just going to pretend that Brazil Mexico and all of the nation south of our border are only populated by indigenous peoples?

Technologically speaking there was no difference between any of us in the late 1500s to 1600. Sorry if that doesn't facilitate your excuse-making

It’s not because they’re an inferior people. It’s because we continued to kill their leaders and implement new ones. We made a continuous power vacuum. You can’t make progress as a country when your government is forever the puppets of another government.

How did they allow themselves to have their leaders killed and new ones they didn’t support put into power? It was forced upon them.

It’s obvious that y’all just want me to say that South/Central Americans are just simply untamed savages who are inferior to the society created by America and Canada, but that would be be disingenuous for me to say. No one is a superior being to anyone. However, the actions we took with these countries have set them on a path that they could never fix themselves.

You aren’t making sense.

The imperialists you are referring to came centuries ago — and stayed.

Much of Latin America is around 50 percent European.

They were. And then colonialism. And yes, European technology was ahead of the indigenous people’s who still preferred projectiles as weapons at the time.

Not disagreeing. I’m saying the US still exerted it’s influence over these countries over the past two centuries, creating power vaccines and puppet governments. Why is everyone so obsessed with the racial make up of Central America? That was only a small part of my argument.

If you start asking random people things you'll get a lot of stupid answers

The data is what is important

And the data seems to suggest that California is becoming more blue. Which might lead you to believe that a lot of the people leaving are conservative.

Glad we agree. That side point had nothing to do with the point I was making about the US intervening and creating power vacuums for the past two centuries.

Why were we able to do that?

why did they start out basically equal to us and then fall so far behind that we could do this?

what is obvious is that you don't like that the question hits upon something you are uncomfortable with.

the data also indicates that the places they're going two are becoming more blue also. Hence if California is becoming more blue it's probably because it's still attracts blue types more than red types

Imperialism is irrelevant to the situation. It happened long ago and the imperialists are an integral part of the countries.

Geography is often forgotten. Natural harbors and ports, arable land that isn't jungly and difficult to develop, navigable waterways for shipping food/goods around the country/region, ect.

Then you add in cocaine is only produced in a small part of the world in South America and the largest demand area for cocaine is up north, and they sit on the land path to it. Gets the drug trade established as the most lucrative opportunities, including working in government. Ramps up the corruption that holds down economic development and keeps the cycle going.

We all know what the OP is getting at here but it's a history and geographic story of the current struggles of Central America.

No I’m capable of seeing the advantages we have created for ourselves. There is no inherent advantage. We are all equal as people. If the argument is turning into what group of people is more superior to others, I’m out. Supremacism of any kind is something I don’t believe in. The reason someone might have a disadvantage isn’t because they’re less intelligent or “Supreme” to someone else. There are other factors out of the control of those people. It’s not that I’m uncomfortable with it either. I’m just shocked that it seems like posters here still believe in some forms of Eugenics. Uncomfortable? No. Disappointed because I thought we were past thinking we’re superior to other people? Yeah.
