More Philosophy or Biology than “Politics,” but most are probably familiar with Koko and her importance in evaluating the development of intelligence and perhaps what it means to be sentient.

Not human nor my pet so I don't care.

ETA: There is too much that really does affect my life and the lives of those around me to care about Koko. Humans alone are made in the image of God and unless I have a personal association to an animal (like a pet), I'm not going to care too much about their passing.

Just a reminder that there is almost no proof that Koko uses sign language as anything but a response to leading behavior from her trainer, and there has been essentially no outside evaluation of her foundations "research".

This term came up last week IRL. I do not hunt. But I don't have a problem with hunters. One of my friends at the gym has been hunting wild hogs at night on the side to make a few extra bucks.

He insists on bragging about how he 'shot a big one right through the neck' to one of the girls in the gym.

Her: 'Why don't you just leave them alone.'
Him: 'Would you leave a roach alone in your house?'
Me: 'That's not a good analogy, Jim'
Him: 'Why not?'
Me: 'Because hogs are sentient and roaches are not.'
Him: 'Whats that mean?'

Animal rights is an interesting philosophical debate.
