Never underestimate the damages done to local live venues by the gambling industry.

Bump for zero upcoming shows.

Does anyone know when the Spanish Moon is going to reopen?

bump the thread from like 2 years ago that was under "who do you want to see at the varsity?" or something like that!

it was 3 years ago this month that sorrento's own Bayou Bullets headlined the varsity. it's kind of amazing to think how big they are now and that we were lucky enough to be a part of it.

Rock n roll will be in full force this Friday when loose jack takes the stage at mid city ballroom. Rock is alive and well you just gotta look a little harder these days. Loudness War is killing it weekly all over BR

Didn't realize it was closed? Saw the Melvins there a couple months or so ago.

They reopen towards the end of next month. They were bought by The Republic New Orleans, but they decided to keep the same name and staff. They closed for the summer to do some pretty nice renovations, supposedly. I’m curious to see whatit’s going to look like on the inside when it reopens.

Oh, didn't realize that. Not sure if that is good news or not; never really been interested in any shows that have come through The Republic that I'm aware of.

When I was a late teen and in my early 20's, these are the type shows that the Varsity had on the regular (2 or 3 times a week). That show should be at the Varsity and not the fricking Texas Club.

What's the varsity's excuse now summers over? Seems whoever does the booking might be focused on something other than the varsity.

The varsity is good for one or two good shows a semester

It was a blast when "jamband"music had small touring acts in the 90's. Soul Hat, Beanland, Allgood...every semester was jam packed with fun music and some of the bigger jambands would come in as well. Widespread, Blues Traveler, Meters, Radiators.

It was hell on my grades though.

I'd imagine it be hard to get a lot of bands to stop in BR with New Orleans right nearby, unless LSU students were really packing em in like we were back then. Even then made a lot of trips down to NOLA to go to big shows, Tipitina's.

Also NOLA has gotten sort of "hipper" than it ever was after Katrina. All these music goers have moved in on the town from around everywhere trying to get a piece of this "New Orleans" they heard about.
