Knife-Wielding, Snake-Dancing Man Shot By Police In Planet Fitness Parking Lot

Amazingly. Not in FL. Comments from the CA people are gold. "I can't believe they shot him, he only had a knife and a snake."

TORRANCE (CBSLA) — A man who police say was wielding a knife was shot to death Friday by officers in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness location in Torrance.
Police say the suspect – described as in his 30s -had a folding knife that was approximately four inches in length, which he was waving around in the parking lot.
Witnesses said the man was holding a snake and doing some sort of “ritualistic dance” with the snake in the parking lot, according to CBS2’s Michele Gile.
An aquarium was spotted at the scene, but no snake was spotted at the location.
When the man refused to comply with officers’ commands and continued toward them, the officer-involved shooting occurred, said Harris.

If I were a policeman, I might shoot someone quicker if there is a threat of them throwing a snake on me than if they had a gun.

I don't understand something.
All the talk for years and years about arming police with tasers so that they can stop exactly these types of situations and yet it's 2018 and we still see incident after incident of officers first response to a threat, many cases not even much of a threat, is to unload their firearms. Not even a second thought given to less-than-lethal takedown options.
If I'm this officers CO and his incident report hits my desk and doesn't even make a single mention of deploying his taser or spray, he's getting shitcanned right there on the spot. That shows panic and the inability to remain calm under pressure and an officer like that is a liability to their Department.

They shot him several times with baton rounds out of a 37mm launcher while he was wandering around the parking lot and he didn't even flinch. Taser is useless if someone is running straight at you with a knife. Even if you manage to get the prongs into him, his momentum is going to bring him right into you with the knife.
