Why do people always say "I didn't evolve from a monkey?"

Monkeys are the tiny creatures with tails. Chimps are what scientists mean when they talk about evolution.

We didn't really evolve from chimps.. they're our cousins. Common ancestor.

This is my theory. In order for humans to evolve from chimps, it would require some type of selective breeding. It would require chimps with certain physical traits and intelligence to reproduce with other chimps with certain physical traits and intelligence..
I don't think that is how we became human. We are just another animal. There use to be other types of humans (archaic humans like Neanderthals for example) and we evolved from them into what we are today. Through out intelligence we are able to continue to evolve..
