Whitney Houston was a gifted vocalist.

Mariah Carey has a vocal range of 4 octaves.

LeAnn Rimes is talented enough to be given "Blue". The writer intended it for Patsy Cline....it took 30 years before he found another singer he considered worthy.

Maybe Jussi Björling, perhaps Enrico Caruso, maybe even Billie Holiday, or Sarah Vaughan.

Metal: Corey Taylor is pretty underrated IMO. Has some serious range.
Phil Anselmo is worth mentioning

Good outside the box call. I would also add country artist Gary Morris.

But overall, Delp is hard to argue against.

Roy Orbison, Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston come to mind. Layne Staley had a deadly grunge sound too.
