Per Reuters

quote:

"This decision is not only unlawful but it is a mistake in many respects," Macron said, adding that the U.S. was responding to global imbalances with economic and commercial nationalism.

How exactly are US tariffs on imports illegal?

Since Mr. Macron apparently is learned on US trade law, Exactly what US law are these tariffs violating?

Perhaps President Frog is alleging that the tariffs violate some One World Order edict that apparently the US has relinquished its sovereignty to.

Must have missed the memo.

The French have declared the action illegal, now let them enforce it.

Yup.

I know it sucks when those on welfare stop getting their checks, but at some point these deals that are bad for the U.S. need to be looked at again.

You should see Trudeau’s response

quote:

At a press conference Thursday, the Canadian leader issued some of his strongest remarks against the Trump administration's trade policies to date. "Let me be clear: These tariffs are totally unacceptable," Trudeau said. "Canadians have served alongside Americans in two world wars and in Korea. From the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan, we have fought and died together."

quote:

"These tariffs are an affront to the long-standing security partnership between Canada and the United States, and in particular, to the thousands of Canadians who have fought and died alongside American comrades-in-arms," he finished.

Perhaps in the Clinton World Order these sorts of 'arrangements' were simply all too common, and these countries grew fat off of paying crumbs to the power brokers.

Things certainly have changed. Trump better have a good protection force around him.

Would he like to compare numbers? We lost almost 10 times what the Canadians did. Not to mention they fought to help the British from the start. It’s not like they just came along with us after Pearl.

I think the claims are that tariffs aren’t allowed under either the trade deals with the EU or by the World Trade Organizatoon.

Just because those groups say they are illegal doesn’t change a damn thing though. We can still put them in place and businesses will still bbe affected by them until either group rules on it. And even then getting them to make us pay up is unlikely.

There is no such thing as actual, enforceable international law without an entity willing to enact it. What constitutes international law is simply agreements between 'sovereign' countries. Short of force (lol), the only way to challenge any change in trade policy is reciprocal in scope.

I’m sure Mr. Trudeau will put an immediate stop to their logging/fracking of national forests in solidarity. Since, ya know, we fought two world wars together.

We also have/had a massively larger population. Trudeau’s point is silly, but there is nothing to belittle about Canada’s performance in the World Wars and since. They have given far more than their fair share. Of course Britain owes them a far larger debt for that than we do.
