The FPI is not buying the Saints' defensive resurgence, as the model has pegged New Orleans as having the worst defense in the NFL, though it remains a top contender because it has the best offense.

All last season, the model thought the praise being heaped on the New Orleans defense was a bit overstated, though it is somewhat surprising to see the defense ranked this low.

I mean I don't think we're gonna be top 5, but more like 10-15?

We'd have to get obliterated and lose cam, rankins, Davis, Lattimore, robinson, and Williams for us to be the worst imo.

We were top a 5 defense (in 2017) on paper from week 3 until Okafor & Vaccaro got hurt.

We would have to have like 6 starters go down to be the worst in the league. Still, we have very good depth & could probably patch work together an average defense (like last year).

I think, at the very worst, we'll be in the late teens (if we have major injuries). We could easily be top 5 if we have good luck with injuries.

They probably don’t realize the impact that all of those injuries had on the Saints defense toward the end of the year last season.

Yep. At the end of year...we had a ton of guys injured on defense.

These guys were on the pre-season roster & ended up injured by the end of the regular season.
DT - Nick Fairley
DT - Mitchell Loewen
DT - David Parry
DT - John Hughes
DE - Alex Okafor
DE - Trey Hendrickson
DE - Hau'oli Kikaha
LB - AJ Klein
LB - Alex Anzalone
LB - Nate Stupar
CB - Delvin Breaux
SS - Kenny Vaccaro

The funny thing is that 2016 was even worse with injuries on defense.

We still did pretty good considering we were about the most injured defense in the league throughout the year. We also have more depth than ive ever been used to.

I could see a step back but only to around 20 or so, and that’s if we have some injuries.

Lattimore and Cam are top 5 in their position. We will have Anzalone back and an upgrade at LB with Davis. We also still have Crawley and Marcus Williams, who I think takes an Earl Thomas like leap this year.

I just don’t see where they get this shite. Seems lazy

I think we’ll be improved, but statisticaly poorer. We have a few major upgrades/factors in our favor- Davis, Davenport, PRob, depth, and experience (secondary, anzalone, Hendrickson) that We did not have last year.

With that being said, we were dominant vs bad teams and below average against good teams. I expect us to slightly improve in those categories but we play less bad teams this year as it currently sounds.

The article mentioned that it seemed a bit extreme for the Saints and I agree with that. However, keep in mind they broke down a lot more factors like SOS which I think they had the Saints as either the 6th or 8th hardest SOS.
It’s all a crapshoot and guesswork though.

Our D is young. They are buying in Dennis Allen system. Dennis is putting them in position to be Successful. We got lucky drafting a great young pro bowler in Marshawn Lattimor. Where in that position we have suffered for a very long time. Which made the D line better in likes of Cam Jordan and Alex Okafor and the interior of Rankins. Now with Davenport as well put Cam Jordan and Davenport Side by side with rankings in the Middle and Okafor on the other side on 3rd down. Unstopable!!! Who u going to double Team. Now we have great depth on the d line and line backer. Keep fresh legs out their. Worst Defence of 2018 ESPN's Crazy.
