It sounds like a driving factor is Hillard's health and some worry that this could turn into a Walker situation that Paul doesn't want to go through again

Man, I think our fans are in denial.

This isn't preemptive. This is reactive. In other words, the situation is already what it is. Now, maybe Hilliard will bounce back as opposed to Walker last year. But, the thought that this is Mainieri playing it safe is off base.

Game 2 is the most important game in a regional (assuming you win the first one)... it's the difference between having to win just one game in two tries or having to win three games in three tries.

If Hilliard was 100% healthy, there is no doubt in my mind that he'd be pitching game 2.

Not surprising, pitching him on 4 days rest in a non elimination game was pretty stupid IMO

Thought the same but you know what happens when we question Pawl in here.

It seems like injuries like these happen all too often to young (freshmen) pitchers towards the end of their first college season.

10,000 calorie diet this summer. It would be a huge win even if we could just get him up to 180.

That worked for me once, but I wasn't an LSU athlete, just a dumb middle-aged dude.

It was said Hilliard had soreness
He hadn’t thrown since his last game & was supposed to throw yesterday to see how he felt
Haven’t seen an update

quote:

Some injury updates: - Austin Bain felt better and said he'll be ready for the weekend. - Paul Mainieri said neither Ma'Khail Hilliard nor AJ Labas have picked up a ball yet. Hilliard might throw today #LSU

Practice today
Hopefully more info after

He last pitched on Wednesday how the hell is he not fully rested to go Friday or Saturday? Is he injured?

He better not throw Hess game one if Hilliard isn’t going until Sunday. Probably our only shot to beat them Saturday is to have Hess dominate like he did in Hoover

Yes, I do.

Never have been a fan of Pawl but at least he showed some emotion (positive & negative) on Thursday.

Missed hit & runs, missed bunts and then the Peterson thing.

What can I say, not a fan of coaches that stand with their hands in their pockets. He was into it in the last week.

Honestly, this is a bad thread to have that dumb argument.

Heading into the regional, we just got news that our #2 isn't available until at least game 3. By the lack of responses, I'm not sure people realize what's going on here.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, I'm numb to any injury news in regards to this team this year.

I'm sure I must be missing something because I don't understand what this has to do with winning or losing games.

Is it asking too much from our coaches to earn their salaries?

CPM admitted that he got lazy after 2009. Is that acceptable to you?

If we had an AD with a spine, the results in all sports would improve. Not to mention his contractual f-up's.

So you think Mainieri hasn't earned his salary?

He fessed up to his mistake 9 years ago and he corrected it.

Your argument is irrational.

So...
Walker - elbow
Storz - back
Labas - shoulder
Hilliard - elbow

Wow, what could have been if all these guys were at full strength. Just pure bad luck

Hess might still be our closer with Peterson and Bain shoring up middle relief. This team would be scary right now with all those guys 100%

The only thing I've read about Hilliard is his arm was sore the next day after throwing 97 pitches last Wednesday.

Have you read somewhere it is specifically his elbow that's causing a problem?
