I hate it for you. I moved away from there in 2006 and would never move back. It is an absolute shithole city and a lost cause. There is no fixing it.

Shreveport is right behind you. Crime keeps going up. Honest people move to Bossier leaving a higher percentage of criminals to prey on a smaller group of people with stuff.
If could be fixed with a big increase in the police budget. But the Democrats who run the city see the fleeing homeowners as Republicans who would just vote against them anyway.
The infrastructure is going to hell. Almost half of the schools are graded as 'Failing'. Every year the Shreveport Times runs an editorial calling for 'Municipal Tax Base'. IE, combining Shreveport and Bossier City financially. Bossier's GOP dominated govt is still laughing about that idea.

Big city mayors everywhere are the absolute worst of the worst politicians and they are a direct reflection of the human refuse that is attracted to central cities.

I lived in that shithole town for almost three years. I am so thankful I got out. We go back and visit friends and relatives occasionally and I just can't believe how bad the roads are despite license plates costing an arm and a leg in Hinds County. Someone that lives there, please post the cost of your tag. I've also heard that there are bridges out all over the rural parts of the county bc there is no money to fix them.
This accident is infuriating. My SIL said that it has taken them almost a year to resurface a two mile stretch of road. Just last week they had to go back and re- do the manholes. There is a manhole right in front of the girl's school, about 200 yards from the accident, that has had barrels around it for 3 weeks.
I think of all the crazy shite teenagers do and live though it and this poor child was killed by an incompetent city.

Zach, off topic but why are the civic leaders in Shreveport so hell-bent on developing that odd-shaped property on 12-Mile Bayou? Plus Ollie is further insistent that it include what would essentially be a glorified high school gym. I just don't see people going there with the nearby Boardwalk being presumably safer, based on location, and having easier accessibility.

Shitty Cities’ answer to all road problems, regardless of complexity or needs outside of patching and repaving: “Hotmix it.”

Seems the Progressive Racists are running city government into the complete chaos - Baltimore, Memphis, Detroit, probably New Orleans, etc

Someone sold them on the idea that the best way to bring in richer residents is to combine basketball, water, apartments and high end shopping.
People from all over America will say "Hey, I want to live in Shreveport."
The best I can figure is that this is their dumbass copy of San Antonio's River Walk.

Jacktown doesn’t care about human life. Murrah baseball boys flip on Riverside Dr. 6 year old capped. Unsolved decapitation. Lil Lonnie getting whacked. Sad.

First thought was New Orleans. But Jackson is spot on as well.

How fast was she driving on residential streets that hitting an open manhile flipped her car?

Third world cities in this first world nation. But don't worry, Europe is following us.

A woman who witnessed the crash told our cameras that she was, tragically, not surprised that something like this happened. She said that previously, another woman damaged her car when she hit the same manhole and that it was not properly repaired after that incident.
The city is still to blame, however.....
I can think of at least 10 times where I have gone out of my way to put an obstruction in front of a large pothole that I had come across. Why? because it pissed me off that no one else had done it, and Hypocrisy is my #1 pet peeve.
See something. Say something. Do something.
5 gallon bucket, borrow a crate or even a GD box from the closest convenience store. Hell as a teen I went out and caution taped & barricaded an entire intersection because it was in such shitty shape. Make a statement.
" yea i seen it was an issue but frick it, not my problem"

A Madison police office said she had to be doing 50-60 MPH when she hit the tilted manhole cover.

When I read the comments I have come to a clear conclusion: it is time we let it die.
America needs a reset. From the federal level to the local level.
I'm not joking and being serious. The sooner the better and we can start over after the culling.

Whats the name of that city with the black liberal mayor showing uncharted economic growth?

It sounds like it’s Superior Asphalt’s fault. And I’m no fan of radical communist Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. He is akin to the South African militant black leaders and an early warning sign of how social media easily engages the homogenous black voting community in ways we haven’t seen before. We saw it in how quickly Bernie Sanders began to turn the tide with young black voters in the 2016 primaries (not quickly enough, but they learned from it).

Yeah I hate this new politically correct age when news refuses to do any reporting of the “victim” and his/her behavior leading up to the tragedy. In order of blame, it goes:
1. Speeding driver
2. Superior Asphalt
3. City of Jackson

We have a great buffer in Madison in that we do not allow rentals. No apartment complexes of any kind. But we are going to be squeezed by Canton and Ridgeland, I agree.
just wait - social media is a game changer. That’s not going to hold up in court once some young black activist gets it in front of the proper judge
