An Indianapolis woman died Saturday after she contracted a flesh-eating bacteria during a vacation to Florida but her husband believes she would still be alive today if doctors diagnosed her earlier.
quote:

However, after the family returned from their trip, Carol noticed she had a sore on her buttock.
quote:

"She had like a pimple come up on her right butt cheek. She said it was kind of painful," Richard Martin said.
quote:

Martin said his wife went to the doctor’s office twice to get the sore checked out. Both times she was sent home with antibiotics and a heating pad.
quote:

"They finally decided to do a biopsy of the area after the third trip. That's when they found out it was the flesh eating virus, bacteria," Richard Martin said.
quote:

After she was released from the hospital, Carol died at home.
quote:

“She made me lunch; I kissed her goodbye to go to work. I come home early in the morning and found her passed away,” Martin said.
quote:

Martin said he believes his wife may have contracted the infection from the Florida hotel’s hot tub.

Tragic, but it's not clear the doctors did anything wrong.

Public hot tub's are some of the nastiest things around.

Doctors aren't perfect.

Sad case though.

Story didn't say how the bacteria progressed.

No way she died from it just being on her butt I'm assuming. Did it eat away a large portion of her skin or does it go internal?

Can't put together a timeline with the limited facts. I'm guessing maybe two months from noticing the spot to death?

Anyone familiar with necrotizing fasciitis?

Not likely. It’s more likely a Vibrio vulnificus infection she picked up wading along the beach.

Some sort of hybrid organism?

It sounds like the doctor was reasonable. Most skin infections on the arse aren’t this particular organism.

He/she knew it was infected and prescribed antibiotics. Once those didn’t work twice, the doc tested for alternative organisms or resistant strains and made the diagnosis. Treatment didn’t work or something else happened. The fact that it went to the coroner’s office is a bit suspicious.

The doctor probably should have tested it the 2nd time just to be safe and to put them at ease. Better yet, why aren't we testing before handing out antibiotics? Surely everyone would be better off not taking antibiotics unnecessarily and maybe saving a life here and there?

watch monsters inside me, doctors are very inept.

and after watching a few episodes and these dopes miss diagnosing people, you will pray to stay healthy.

Some of the failed diagnosis are laughable at best. Ladies skin, on her leg is being eaten away, and they called it poison ivy and gave her ointment! LOLOLOL
