I’m considering getting some home equipment and cutting out the gym altogether. I have a spare 16x16’ room that would make a nice size home gym.

Anyone does this? What equipment do you use? What equipment is a waste? I don’t want to spend a ton of money then end up giving it all away 5 years later.

Bowflex? Some of the higher end models look like a good workout but I’ve never used them.

I built a power rack out of 4x4’s and bought a set of barbells. I also put up some rings. It’s been all I have needed to build muscle.

Skip machines. Get an Olympic barbell. Power rack. Plates. Bench. Jump rope.

That’s a mini-dream of mine.

Garage gym here.

Rack, barbell, bench, kettlebells, GHD, reverse hyper, yoks, farmers walk handles, sled, sandbags, dip attachments and TRX.

Barbell and rack is the core. The rest should be tailored to what you use, but solid barbell and rack will be the base for the rest.

Yes sir, if that's what you wanna call it, it's gotten a tad out of hand with commercial equipment.

All you need is a four post rack of high quality

Nice barbell

Flat bench

Weights from dicks

I'm gonna say this in the rack and the barbell, spend once, cry once. Period. Buy something nice, especially the rack. It will be the center piece of your gym and is a life saving device literally. I suggest rogue, black widow, elitefts, sorinex, reflex. Get 3x3 or 2x3 so all of rogues attachments fit it.

The other thing you could do would be to start with a nice adjustable bench and get a set of powerblocks. Start with the U-90 starter set that goes up to 50lbs, add the expansion sets as you can.

I'd get flat bench. I never use my adjustable only on occasion. My flat is the workhorse. It's also cheaper

I agree but if you are going to go the dumbbell route, better to get a nice adjustable.

I personally couldn't do without an adjustable as I don't do a ton of flat bench anymore, but starting out with a rack, it's what any budget minded person should buy.

I use mine on the weekends. But I’ll be using it more frequently once I end my gym membership.

I have a squat rack, 2 bars, 350lbs in rubber plates, power block dumbbells, kettlebells, med ball, jump rope, pull up bar, treadmill, rower, a box and a few other things.

777 has some legit shite in his “home gym” lol!

Get you a rack, bar, plates, some DBs and a few kettle bells. Then you can decide what type of cardio/conditioning equipment you want. i have a rower. I have been using this set up for years and get a great work out.

I've been leaning this. I told 777 I was buying a house a year ago and we never did due to life....but I may go this route now and splurge on the bar and other necessities. I went back to bodyweight at work for now as my schedule has been out the apt from before sunup-sundown and frankly, I like a clean place...

Just get you some rings, you can build serious muscle with rings. I have the body by rings program in my bodyweight folder.

Sandbags, pullup bar, rings. I could have a gym membership essentially free through my insurance, but I can do everything I want at home.

Hey lau77, how does body by rings compare to The Irin Cross program?

Iron cross is about strengthen the joints, ligaments, and learning progressions. Body by rings is a bodyweight hypertrophy program. If lifting weights, stick to the iron cross, it fits better for most in that place. Exception would be those in a hypertrophy phase and in a caloric surplus looking to pack on mass.

Flat bench is a great home gym equipment. you can use dumbbell, exercise ball and pushup bar for extra benefits.

Garage gym. Power rack w pull up bar, barbell and plates, solid adjustable bench, adjustable dumbbells, floor padding. Hit the streets for cardio.

It’s good for the basics and power lifts and saves a lot of time and I can workout in my underwear. I’m pretty limited in the amount of exercises I can do, however.

I have a garage gym as well. Pretty simple, I've got a rack, barbell, flat bench, pull up bar, dip attachment, EZ bar, and ~315 lbs in bumper plates. I run outside for any cardio.

It's a simple set up and I spent somewhere around $1200 For everything. I figured if I ever got tired of it i could get a pretty good chunk of that back by selling everything.
