Peter Jackson Reportedly Deciding Between a Return to Middle-Earth or a DC Superhero Movie

Now it looks like he’s gearing up to direct his next feature, and according to The One Ring, he’s deciding between a return to Middle-earth or a DC superhero flick. If he returns to Middle-earth, it looks like it will be as part of Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series, which would just be baffling to me. I understand Jackson loves the world of Tolkien, but The Hobbit showed he’s not going to do it any better than The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Getting to do it on Amazon’s streaming service just seems pointless from everyone’s perspective unless Jackson wants a canvas where he’ll get to include every single thing from the books (Tom Bombadil fans will finally have their day!).
A DC superhero film seems like the more intriguing option for Jackson. He’s never really been in that space before, and it could be a good fit depending on the character. His pal Steven Spielberg is already getting into the DC superhero game with producing and possible directing the movie Blackhawk, and I’m sure a director Jackson’s pedigree would likely have a lot of leeway and freedom to play with a variety of superheroes from DC vast catalogue of characters.

I bet he makes a real life Quail Man. Doug Funnie jumps between his romance with Patty Mayonnaise, rocking in The Beets, and saving the world.

Maybe he can take The Judas Contract and stretch it out to three 190 minute movies.

LOTR - amazing cinematic achievements in a trilogy with great casting, acting, directing, pacing, special effects, source material adaptations and writing.
Hobbit - the exact opposite of the LOTR.
What happened?

I would not go near a DC movie if I were in his shoes.

I would like to see him executive produce the Amazon Tolkienverse series. He could be the Kevin Feige of LOTR

Someone has to get one correct at some point, right?

Why not remake the entire DC series with all female characters?

Well, he loves him some CGI, so he is a perfect fit for a DC movie.

They wanted at least two to three movies to make as much money as possible.
The book was too short to make 3 decent movies out of it so he had to add in story lines.
Turns out he's not a great screenwriter so the storylines sucked
I think he realized they sucked so he tried to make them more fun with action through CGI
The CGI was just fricking ridiculous

The Hobbit was the fault of the studio and the first director leaving, and maybe a smaller amount his own. He had a ton to try to fix (and sometimes not very good) and do in a very short amount of time.

There wasn't enough source material to warrant a trilogy. Plus the hobbit is a children's book and not exactly an epic
ETA: Also Guillermo Del Toro

Guillermo Deltoro was going to direct The Hobbit, then at the last minute he had to pull out to make Pacific Rim. This left PJ in a bind, and he decided to direct them himself.
I think his heart wasn't into it, and that's why they were so flawed. I can understand this, because the amount of work and effort he put into TLOTR is enough to exhaust anyone. He's older at this point, exhausted from TLOTR and thus mailed it in for Hobbit.

If he is smart he will stay far away from the dumpster fire that is the DCEU.
