LA State Politics: Can someone explain wtf is going on in Lafayette re: University Hosp?

I see nothing but hysteria about budget cuts to Medicaid that would leave University Hospital closing down, laying off 800+ employees. and that the Medicaid cuts would leave 60,000 elderly and sick being evicted next month from nursing homes and assisted livings..
Whats the real situation?
KATC article from today.

University might close. Lafayette General is fine.

We'll just have to shut down LSU football and school lunches so we don't have to throw out old people.

Blame the regressive "Honor Code" Dems, and the idiot 'conservatives" that elected him.

Also blame our shite state constitution that only makes it easy to cut things in education and healthcare while a bunch of stupid shite in budget is untouchable

Basically, the state is broke once again and can’t afford to keep UHC open.
Meanwhile, we are also dead last in economic development. So much great news in our state right now.

You want to see a budget cut?
How about this? Louisiana lost 0.4 percent of its GDP in 2016 and another 0.2 percent in 2017. With a state economy of $251 billion in current dollars, that’s a good $1.5 billion budget cut to the people of the state. That’s your actual money being cut.
frick JBE and the idiotic republicans that put that fraudulent thief in office. Constantly stealing our tax money with nothing to show for it and red tape out of the arse that has killed jobs and killed economic growth.

We really need a slash and burn strong conservative leadership to sweep up this mess and make this state not just competitive, but very competitive, to do business here. What we've been doing......ain't workin'.

Budget cuts closing the hospital. Very bad times in Baton Rouge.
BTW, it isn’t hysteria. By law, notice must be given if programs will be unfounded. Notice of closure has been given. The republicans in control of the legislature have no leadership or vision. JBE is not doing this.

We need a governor that will come in and move to more of a Texas model.

That'll never, ever happen. Either you accept what Louisiana is or you move

Every year those bastards moan and groan about cuts to healthcare and education yet they will not get together to change the state constitution, which protects every department except health and education. It blows my mind.

In 2013 LSU decided it didn’t want to run the hospital anymore. They formed a public/private partnership with Lafayette General to operate UHC while the state would fund it. Fast forward to 2018 and the state has decided to allocate ZERO DOLLARS in their budget to state run hospitals which includes UHC.
It will be an absolute fricking disaster if they do not call a special session and fund the hospitals. Medicaid and low income patients will be without quality healthcare. Lourdes, Womens, and LGH will absorb all of their patients mostly by them just showing up to emergency rooms and waiting there for hours. 54k patients, another 150 physician office visits per day, 800 jobs will all cease to exist.

You wonder how many more blows the people will take before they decide to move out of state.

Still curious if Jindal still has a strong support base after all the problems he caused

It’s all political posturing. They aren’t closing any hospitals.
