Csb I made $100,000 in bouneses in the military.
quote:because you sucked in high school?
Teachers said I wouldn't go anywhere.
quote:Congrats on your high school diploma
Almost finished with my associates and moving on to a university for my bachelor's.
quote:Well until your GI bill runs out at least, no telling how long that will take
Btw I have no student debt or loans and get paid to go to school.

Teachers...

Yes, many people can learn from a computer, yet if you don't plan on being home pushing your kids you need a teacher who will do that (or sleep with them) but a quality teacher is invaluable, however, many are leaving because they can make more doing other things.
Teachers are fairly compensated from a total compensation standpoint. Put in thirty years and they'll pay you 75% of your average salary over the previous 5 years for life.

quote:Although I believe you are stupid, I don't think you understand what teaching actually is anymore. I can not make a multiple choice test and grade that way. Everything I do is a writing assignment and when I have 80+ writing assignments to grade a week it will take me awhile to accurately grade them. Especially when everything is a paragraph to three paragraphs. Unless I want to be lazy and just give grades out.
Any teacher that does this, it is a reflection on them. It doesn't take 15 hours a week to "grade papers and shite." Also, sitting in front of the tv watching My 600 Lb Life on TLC while making sure Jimmy Lipper reduced his fraction isn't working.

You get around a $1000 for a masters degree? That's awful. In Georgia it's between $5000 and $7000 most places.

I respect teachers for what they do. I'm just tired of seeing the bitching about salaries. Yeah, teachers are severly underpaid for how much they take care of our children, but if they don't like the salary, find another job. Most can't because they have no real world experience other than teaching. They have been in a school their whole life.

No, it isn’t. A first year Chicago teacher with a masters makes about the same as Fairfax County. However, they do have the steps to go with the lanes and get more frequent small raises as opposed to one each year.

Correct, I did, however, if they want to increase my workload they should compensate. Either with yearly salary or bonus.
You could quit if you are not happy.
Also, how many days off per year do you get? Last time I got off for fall break, Christmas break, spring break and summer break I was in college. Seems like a pretty decent salary for 9 months of work per year. What do you do to supplement your income during all those days off?

but if they don't like the salary, find another job
quote:That can apply to any fricking profession take someone who dropped out and became a welder, what can they do? What about someone who became an operator? Seriously that is any fricking profession someone has trained for, whether it is school or technical college, or on the job training.

Lol, in chicago, it’s close to 70k at least.
No they don't. They make $50,000 starting out.

Plus it's not a secret teachers don't make lots of money.

Did you go to school to learn how to be a teacher? Why didn't they go get a degree to fall back on and a teaching certificate?

Curious because I know nothing about LA teachers benefits and pay other than what you just provided.
Does your employer pay towards your retirement? Do you receive far more than what you pay towards your pension?
Do you not receive health insurance benefits? What is that worth?

They can't? What do the 41% of of teachers who leave within the first 5 years end up doing then?

quote:I work 10 months of the year with a 2-week summer training, so I get a 1 month, 2-week vacation during the year. I mean I get 10 days off sick, however, I do not get vacation time + sick days that roll over like many jobs.
Seems like a pretty decent salary for 9 months of work per year.
A friend that is a CPA in another state gets 10 days sick + 10 days vacation, whatever he doesn't use gets rolled over to the next year up to 60 days. He also has off for 3 days during Christmas, 3 during Thanksgiving, 0 Mardi Gras since no in the state, 4 for Easter. So does he get off as much? No but does his time off work out better for him? Yes...
We figured if he used all of his time each year I would have essentially 12 days more off a year than he does.

Idk? I was replying back to the other dude that says the can't do better than $40k/yr.

Did you go to school to learn how to be a teacher
quote:Why didn't you get a degree instead of military? I mean many teachers see this as a career, the military helped support you, you didn't see it as a career. A teaching certificate is more than a piece of paper especially as they ask teachers to do more each year.
Why didn't they go get a degree to fall back on and a teaching certificate?
