Hey look at me, I'm so edgy not giving a shite about comic book movies and telling people about it!!!

Why would anyone think not caring about comic book movies is "edgy"? That doesn't even make sense.

Just simply being a contrarian itself is edgy by nature.

I guess it might be contrarian on this board to not like superhero movies. I'll give you that. Lots of people dislike them in real life.

I just don't get the love for these superhero movies. I understand it for kids and teens, but seeing so many adults lose their mind over them is weird to me. It's kind of like adults who enjoy pro wrestinlg.

Like comic book movies, but have become a lil burnt out. No longer spending money to see them in theaters. Wait for RedBox or Netflix.

The other guy made a valid point, OP likely (well, assuredly) cares about other posters thoughts/feelings/opinions. Which is why he started the thread to begin with, to hear other's thoughts. But again, simply saying you don't care about something doesn't mean you do.

I didn't say he cared about IW the plot, like caring about what happens to Captain American or Iron Man, he cares about IW the cultural impact and it's effect enough to put himself in the bucket of "not caring." So, IW is still important to him, important enough to make sure he disassociate's himself from it because that action is important, even if the movie plot itself is not important.

quote:

I'm trying ot think of the most boring, useless, mundane, irrelevant thing I can right now. "I don't care about the thickness of the card stock stored next to the printer in our office". I mean...truly, I honestly could not possibly care less about that subject. The fact that that thought just briefly whisked across my brain, and my typing what I just did, doesn't now make me care.

That's not the same. The act of creating the thread invalidates the "not caring," because that's more than "a brief thought." If you would have publicly made sure that people in your office KNOW that you don't care about the card stock, that would be the relevant comparison. But then again, you'd be "caring" enough about that opinion to make sure that you put yourself in a bucket. The OP wants to be in a group of people based on a preference/viewpoint, which means he cares about the division that preference creates.

Again, "caring," is probably the wrong word, because it denotes positivity. IBy creating buckets of people that do and don't "care," he in fact does care about the movie.

Me too. Last super hero movie I saw was probably Captain America or X-men DOFP. Correction, I did watch Logan.

This board's obsession with them probably drives dislike of them on this board, honestly. Although my dislike is probably more confusion based.

"I've been waiting on infinity war for 15 years!!!" - the board

Meanwhile, some of us have no fricking clue what infinity war is. What I'm most puzzled by is how all these people know about this stuff. None of my friends read comics, so where did this come from?

How old are you ? I was 10 when these comics were being published and read them. Of course that was in the days before the internet.

The recent run of comic book movies doesn't appeal to me at all.

Looks like I'm a little younger but not much. I just find it weird that up through HS, college and beyond, I'm not aware of anyone who was particularly into comics. I had some as a kid, but it was just like a passing thing, I didn't follow their storylines and whatnot.

I appreciate that the movies are pretty well done, as I've seen a few and will watch a particularly well-regarded one on Netflix or whatever. And I get that plenty of the people who see this will do it because they like similar movies, not because of a comic book background. But this board is filled with people who know how all these comics intersect and the backstories and whatnot, and I just always find it surprising.

At least for this board, you're talking about a group of people probably 30-37 or so, who:

1) Grew up with HIGH access to Comics comparative to the rest of history
2) Along with the extreme growth of productized consumer culture - So we had the TV shows, the Video Games, the novel inspirations, the birthday party gear, etc. There were more Marvel console video games in like 1994 than there are now regardless of the access to games now. Funny right?
3) But prior to the explosive growth of niche-based, independent creativity and
4) Before the "Access Everything" goal of the internet

It's the same culture that bred Star Wars, which probably also doesn't affect your generation as much as the one you are seeing. It was really easy to "go deep" on properties because there weren't that many, and all of your friends were into some part of it as well.

This retort always bugs me. Making this thread doesn't mean he cares about Infinity War.

I don't care about Infinity War, and making this post doesn't mean I care about Infinity War

Not true. If you didn’t care it would not even register enough to post about.

Who cares? I don't want to see "like water for chocolate". Should I make a new thread?

Good lord. Been a lot of work in this thread to validate a post that's essentially just a meaningless gotcha.
