Tremaine Edmonds @ 16 could end up being a steal as well, and he played power 5 and was dominant....but I trust Ireland

This will be proven. He's not even close.

Look, I agree with the premise of your post, but I just want you to think about this: people say stuff like this in every draft. People said this when we took Sullivan. 2 1st round picks for a possible 10 year dominant DT!

yes the day of/after the draft is always the day of full blown irrational optimism. it makes the perception of a huge gamble easier, b/c we just got a fricking stud, brah. when the perceived value is infinite, the risk becomes a lot less of a factor

If Okafor comes back healthy our 3rd and long pass rush is

Cam, Rank, Okafor, Davenport

OH MY GOD. Fellas we just improved an already awesome dline.

Even if MD is only a 3rd down pass rusher this first year. Thats something we lacked last year.

Cam is going to have an even bigger year (is that possible)

Everyone was expecting it to be Lamar Jackson, which would have set off some incredible reactions in a positive way.

If Davenport turns out to be the player everyone thinks he is we finally have a stud player playing opposite of Jordon and a pass rusher we have been desperately needing. He is 6'6 265 and ran a 4.58, let that sing in!

We are in win mode right now with Brees's days being numbered. So I have zero problems with it because we are still going about it the right way and not completely selling out the farm. We are still building for the future!

High risk, high reward. Thing is, this staff has earned the right to gamble a little by putting us in such a great spot in recent drafts and smart FA moves. If we were still swinging and missing in drafts, this would look like a desperation move.

lets just hope that we traded the 32nd pick next yr !!!

That is the strategy. If Davenport pans out (which the chances are good) the cost of trading up becomes very valuable.

If you shoot for mediocrity and don't make moves like this you'll probably be mediocre at best.

If you shoot for the top you better your chance at finishing at the top.

That has always been SP's approach. Does it work all the time? No. But it works sometimes whereas shooting for mediocrity never works. I love SP's approach as he shoots to win a Superbowl every year and how he manages risk.

This is what i said last night. I also said it the last few weeks. We needed a freak pass rusher. He really doesnt have to do a ton other than that.

Our 3rd and long pressure packages will be incredible. Add in the talented secondary and i see lots of sacks and ints this year

thanks bnh. I you researched the writer, and I was not going to.

I read the article in the OP, and took for what it was...an opinion. Until the very end when he said that "...Lamar Jackson deserved to be a first round pick." It was then that I realized that his is a dumb opinion.

Thanks for reinforcing my correct opinion.

For his first year, I agree, but for 2 first round picks he better develop into an every down player

IMO that is all perception.

SP apparently did his homework on Davenport to mitigate fan perceived risk. It's homework that we cannot fully see so we have to trust SP.

If you read SP's book he talks about managing risk and the example he wrote about was the on-side kick at the beginning of the 3rd quarter in SB 44. He managed the risk of that play by doing the following:

1. Practiced the play a lot leading into the game.
2. Made it a surprise.
3. Kicked to the Saints sideline.

Normal on-sides kick have approximately a 20% success rate. However by managing and mitigating the risk on this on-sides kick the success rate was increased +50%.

Saints gave up way too much trading up for non-QB

This statement is about as ignorant as it gets.

First, he's implying you only make a trade like this for a QB which is nonsense. (And why would the Saints do it for the 5th QB taken???)

Second, a QB doesn't help us win a Super Bowl in the next 3 years. With our offense, the last thing the league wants to see is our defense get better. This pick does that.

Crack smoker this writer is.

The Pats don’t really draft that well.
