LinkedIn is the only social media worth having.

My current job came from a connection started on LinkedIn. It's the only social media platform I'm on. I got a significant raise and a company car, so I'd say it's worth it.

my wife looked a former classmates profile, he saw that, reached out to her and offered her a job making 50% more than she was currently making, now she's the bread winner
Does she spend a lot of late nights at the office?

Has linked in ever provided any Benefits for you to actually use it

Employer called my wife after finding her on LinkedIn. She told them she wasn't interested and to call me. I now work for them.

Depends on your industry I'm sure, bit people in my industry get called by recruiters out of the blue pretty often. Whether you take the job or use it to try to leverage a raise, I find it useful.

I work in professional services, so it's made managing my network incredibly easy.
If you work in industry as a Staff Accountant, it probably serves very little purpose to you.

I get hit up by recruiters a few times each year purely off my linkedin profile. For something that costs me nothing, I would say that is a pretty great benefit.

I see so many people responding to this thinking or having only used LinkedIn as a job search site. While I would agree that it's one of the top places to search for a job and to be discovered by recruiters, I find that to be ancillary in their value proposition.
My company provides LinkedIn Premium as part of its enterprise plan with LinkedIn. As part of the sales team, I get their Sales Navigator product, and it's one of the most powerful products out there. I use it to search for specific prospects, roles, and titles at my existing and targeted accounts, and then use that as I make my prospecting calls and email/InMail outreach (InMail is great when you don't have the contact's email address already, and it's what recruiters use when they find you). I also use it to stay up to date on any news, personnel changes, or new hires at those same accounts. I find this to be extremely valuable when I look at filling my pipeline for new opportunities or upsells/cross-sells.
All in all, I'd say LinkedIn is extremely valuable and absolutely necessary to succeed in my industry (we provide a SaaS solution for B2B marketing professionals).

It’s the top source of candidates that recruiters use. That’s like 80% or more of how it makes revenue. But if you think you can make connections out of it then you’ll be wasting time. If it were that easy it would be that easy

It can be a fine resource for someone who is not right out of school but maybe even up to ten years experience. At that stage in a career there is plenty of job hopping and plenty of employers with holes to fill.
