This is a smart move by Hines.
As indicated already, he was originally projected as an OL.
Also, there is more need for offensive linemen. So it is a move that is very helpful to the team, for this upcoming season.

He wants to be #1. Wants to be the only one recruited.

Rosenthal isn't moving. O loves him at DE

I predicted this and took all kinds of heat for it. He would make a very good defensive lineman, but he wouldmake an All American caliber olineman. This is the best offensive lineman to come to LSU in the last 20 years. His footwork is fantastic.

You act like everyone always pans out.
Half those guys are three starts and not every three star is Bennie Logan. Most aren’t.
Getting a good player is always a good thing.
But this DL class isn’t as strong as it needed to be.

It’s just one less now isn’t it?
Inherently weaker through subtraction.

D linemen tend to be more athletic than OLs , and he has to have some of the mentality of a DL, so it sounds great to me!

I dont Dislike anyone, but At the same time, I know don’t expect all of these guys to be good. Statistically it just doesn’t happen. If we recruited all 5 stars it would be true.
Realistically if half these guys become decent starters that’s probably a realistic expectation.
One less lowers your chances.

The thing about this DL class was it didn't really include any early contributors or studs but definitely included a handful of guys who could develop over the next 2-3 years and become good to really good players.
That being said, it's extremely rare for any DL coming in to be impactful year 1 at this kind of level. The physicality difference is just hard to adjust to. Ed Oliver is one of the very few recently able to do it, but he also was a 5-star playing in the AAC, not SEC. Big difference.
Honestly, I dont expect any out of Cotton, Livingston, Jenkins or Rosenthal to become household names on the DL, but I expect at least 2 or 3 of them to be meaningful players in 2-3 years.

I agree But the problem is we could lose Fehoko and Lawrence after this season.
And maybe Ed alexander.
So they are going to have to contribute sooner rather than Later.

Still have Shelvin, Logan, Farrell & Thomas. Shelvin, Farrell and Thomas will be 3rd year players and Logan a 4th year guy. So we aren't just dropping off to guys with zero experience next year.
Even losing those 3 early if we do, we are in a much better depth spot next year than we were this past season on the DL, we wont have to turn to so many freshmen like we did at times in the rotation in 2017.

So you’re going to keep saying this DL class wasn’t as strong as it needed to be cause a guy we all expected to switch to offense is now switching to offense?
Stupid fricking logic but ok. Just keep bashing just for no reason

Cotton is going to be a household name watch.. Rosenthal will be a household name on the OL

I agree. Can you imagine Hines at one guard and Kardell at the other guard. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Hines like the 1# off guard last year prior to changing to def?

So when Rosenthal switches to Ol you’re gonna keep pretending Cotton and 2 three stars you’re gonna pretend this is a great DL class?
And ya ya ya list all the three stars.
If 1/2 becomes a quality starter that’s pretty good. But we keep getting guys that are gonna develop maybe into quality starters.
But we’re also building our whole team around a great defense and we need stars an the DLine.
Like who do you think is an all American?

Who says Dare switches?
And do you dislike the players or the numbers? Make up your mind

Oh so Hines was a sure thing we all knew it but let’s pretend 6’7” 321 Dare is a DT.
I dont Dislike them but I also Don’t see any star potential. And we need star potential.
The last 2 classes we’ve maybe gotten 2 DL with real star potential. And a bit of guys that we are hoping develop into starters.
