The Ben McDonald thread had me thinking back on LSU athletes that played basketball as a 2nd sport. I think Ben's basketball career at LSU was short, as were others such as Marcus Spears and Corey Webster. Who had the most significant impact at LSU playing basketball?

While we appear to be past the need for gimmicks with our basketball program, I think it would be cool if we had one honorary football player join the basketball team after the football season is over. Like a younger guy (FR/SO) that was a good high school player with enough upside to potentially break into the rotation as a defensive guard/wing specialist (think Honey Badger) or a DT/DE to provide front court depth/toughness. Or at least provide some added energy to those late season practices if they are not worthy of game minutes.

Lyle Mouton played a good bit of basketball for at least a year.

With the way things are going at LSU, we should be talking about the potential of Tremont Waters at QB.

I don't remember Webster actually being on the LSU basketball team. Spears and Clayton (I could be confusing Clayton and Webster though) were briefly. Ronald Martin did it for a year.

Didn't Ben McDonald and Lyle Mouton have basketball scholarships? That would make baseball their 2nd sport.

Aside from all the other stupidity of your post, you think Matthieu would have been a good defensive guard/wing? He’s 5’9”.

"Who had the most significant impact at LSU playing basketball?"

The most significant I can think of goes way back. I believe Joe Adcock was All-SEC in hoops while also an outstanding baseball player who went on to have a long major league career. I see someone else mentioned Lyle Mouton, who logged big minutes on the court before focusing on baseball.

Ronald Martin was on both teams for a while but I wouldn't say he had a significant impact.

Past experiences would say Start with the band for front court depth... Maybe find a tall clarinet player??

Jesus christ. How about we save roster spots for actual basketball players?

As for as athletes playing basketball as a 2nd sport, Early Doucet would have been the best at LSU and I don't think it would have been close. The guy could flat out ball.
