Concealed carry for my better half

Searched and read several threads but I wanted to ask you guys and the women of the OB.
My fiancée (no pics) is looking for an everyday carry. Likely will carry in her waistband. She has looked at the S&W shield series 9mm.
Just polling y’all for your thoughts and what the women in your life carry.

I have a shield in a 9mm. I've been very happy with it. Accurate and reliable so far.

The best way to go about this is to bring her and let her see what feels the most comfortable in her hands. I never recommend picking a gun for someone because if they don’t like it they won’t want to use it.

Mine carries a ruger LC9s really skinny grip but good for her.

Shield would be a good choice. Also the XD-S series. I have a 9mm that almost disappears IWB in my Blade Tech holster. I tried out a bunch of different compact and subcompact 9s and settled on the XD-S. Mainly because of familiarity, having owned a XD-SC in 40 for several years.

You raise some good questions. Personally, I'm pretty comfortable w/ what/how I carry and my recs to men. For women, I don't think what to carry is significantly different, but how to carry is.
As far as what to carry, I hope you can point her towards a really good self defense round in the 9mm instead a the smaller 380. Although not much bigger than a 380, the 9mm has a better record as a self defense gun. If small size is an absolute she may have to go the 380 route.
I'd suggest a striker or DOA single stack 9 mm gun in the size range of the Glock M43, S&W Shield, Kahr CM9, Ruger LC9, Springfield XDS, etc. Pick one w/ a strong history of reliability. Choose the specific model that she handles best, including accurate and rapid follow up shots. 1911 platform is acceptable as well for the shooter willing to adequately learn it's more complicated manual of arms.
If she's uncomfortable w/ the semi-auto, the next best choice would be a small frame, light weight, short barreled revolver in 38 Spec +P or 9mm.
Encourage her to handle and shoot different guns. I've dealt w/ some women who preferred a revolver and some who preferred the semi-auto; I've also seen some women who thought they preferred a revolver, but after handling and shooting both types they found they actually preferred the semi-auto. And yes, proper technique is essential for learning how to successfully rack a slide.
As far as how to carry, I'd suggest y'all also look at some women specific forums/blogs ("Cornered Cat" is one I recall). There are a series of informative videos on YouTube by a woman (faliaphotography), dealing w/ clothing issues women encounter w/ conceal carry.
Keep us updated, especially w/ pics.......of the gun, of course!

Wife selected a Shield for hers.
She tried a few and that's the one that felt the most comfortable to her. In the end that's what matters: how it feels in her hand. If she's not comfortable with it...she may not use it. She can't be scared of the weapon because she's not comfortable with it.

Do you have a local range that lets you rent handguns? If so, go there and have her shoot Sig P365, Walther PPS M2, Glock 43. Lacking that, go to a gun store and have her try racking each slide and pulling the trigger. Carrying iwb, she will need a single stack subcompact. I wouldn't suggest anyone carry a single action w/ thumb safety if they are used to that system.

how far north of I-10. There's a couple ranges in BR that rent guns so she can shoot a couple before buying. Id try to let her wear a couple too because the best shooting gun isn't any good if its a PITA to carry.

Mine carries a S&W 38 j-frame in titanium.
Compact, light, won't jam, no worries about chambering a round.
