I don't know if this has been posted before, if so please link me to that thread.

Superman has so many storylines, abilities, and enemies. It is crime that we don't have a modern-day equivalent (post-2008) of the Arkham series for Superman.

DC could definitely cash in on the idea. Any thoughts as to why it never come to fruition?

And yes, I know Superman has a bad history of video game adaptations. The character deserves a better representation.

For me, Superman is too powerful. The only things that seem to stop him from doing whatever he wants is kryptonite and his conscious. Batman's foes are more "punchy" and (as should be) are a match for a normal man like Batman.

Technically Superman could go all sub zero on every person he faced that isn't kryptonite infused or a wheelchair bound woman with a cleft palate.

You can't capture his power level in a video game, that's why they all stink.

You'd need a freeze mechanic, a heating mechanic, a super speed mechanic, a "destroy every building completely with a punch" mechanic. It's unrealistic for a game.

It would be like playing in God mode unless they really nerfed his power. The new Spiderman looks like it has a lot of similarities to Arkham. I think Blade and Daredevil would work too.

This is the game I want. That and Nightwing, but Nightwing is just Batman but different.

I figure it'd have to be like the old Hulk Ultimate Destruction games for Xbox, and think they could realistically do it.

all have been done in modern games like Infamous

Destructible environments ?? We have those.

His health bar could just be an invulnerability meter that only recharges with health drops, saves points, and in the sunlight when in the overworld.

Yes, I get he needs nerfs. But so what. We made games with the INCREDIBLE HULK and still put caps of how much damage he could take.

Id install a moral system (ala fallout games). And make certain decisions direct the storyline.

Agree that we have those, but usually the game is focused on one thing or a couple of things. Game engines and physics still have a tough time accounting for everything. And the problem with Superman is that he has everything. If you're in a street battle in a Superman game and can't just grab a guy and fly into the air, then it won't feel authentic.

Same if you can't punch something through a building.

I mean you could do it, but when you punch Zod and he just bounces off of the nearest building it won't feel like you're Superman, or like you're fighting Zod.

Plus, the very problem of Superman is that he is TOO powerful for a game essentially. The only real threats to Superman are big villains, so when you're exploring (I assumer you mean an open world), what are you throwing at the player to make it a challenge?

Only way I could see this work is if only one part of the game is on earth. Maybe he travels to another system with a yellow sun where he still has his powers but the beings also have his strengths ala Zod.

Best thing I can think of is either

1. Metropolis is invaded by a (insert alien lifeform similar to Kryptonians) who have intentions of world-take over and have the generic backstory with planet Krypton.

2. Supes has to go to their planet instead as a pre-emptive assault. Other motivations including kidnapping Lois or some other character.

And give Supes more to do than just fighting. Save people within a time limit. Put up mini-games (make a troll one similar to Superman 64 with a joke at the end_

Same. Batman beat em up works. Superman would just 1 hit KO every henchman in the game. Boooooring. I love Superman, it's just hard to pull off.

The X-Men Legends games on PS2 were pretty good. Ironman is an unlockable character in the second one.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 were great.

The DC MOBA was fantastic, but no one played it.

I'm assuming you mean that whatever race is used, then have foot soldiers who are close in power to Superman....

...but the problem arises that as soon as all of the enemies are close in power to Superman....the the whole point of Superman - that he is SO much stronger than those around him - is rendered moot. Hence, the inauthentic feeling of being Superman.

That's the crux of it.

The point of Superman is to have access to a ton of power, but only use it when it matters and know how to use it for good. I'm not sure you can build an effective game where you CAN punch every enemy through a Building, but CHOOSE how much of your strength you will use, and what the effects of that are on the game world.
