He is coming off of a hamstring injury which is why he did not run at combine.

That's tough. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

You have to think about how great those hands will be vs NFL athletes who have been in the league. This won’t be doc 2 anymore.

Would rather Giesecki
This helps confirm it
Giesecki can't block at all apparently

ok, so that's not as bad. Just assumed it was better and hadn't seen it reported

So he didn't run at the combine either. If figured he laid down a time he was happy with and was sticking with it.
Posted on 3/30/18 at 4:18 pm to tigerterrace
He was injured for the combine, couldn't participate in any running-type drills
He pulled a hamstring at the Senior Bowl

Ok - please understand, a hamstring NEVER really heals. The broken strings do not grow back. The “strings” around the tear (definition of a sprained hamstring), strengthen to overcome the injury. It is why you see so many pros continue to have recurring strained issues. The 40 is not part of normal conditioning unless that is what you are specifically training for. More hamstring injuries occur trying to do this event then any other. Hurt his draft positins few spots, maybe, but for a guy that has had the injury already, not a bad decision.

We will see. If the teams believe he is injured and are comfortable with his speed then you are probably right.
But if they think he's hiding something. He's going to fall. The 40 is a very important evaluation tool.

how slow is this guy that he doesnt want to run?
Three cone time of 6.87 vs Gesicki's time of 6.76. Seems pretty quick to me.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline relays that South Dakota State TE Dallas Goedert (hamstring) "looked terrific in pass catching and blocking drills."
We've heard little from Goedert this evaluating season, as the 6-foot-4, 256-pounder only recently started running after mending up from a hamstring injury sustained during the Senior Bowl practice week near the end of January. During this week's pro day, the Day 1 hopeful notched a 35-inch vertical jump, a 121-inch broad jump and scampered through the three-cone drill in 6.87 seconds. To put that three-cone time in perspective, Penn State's Mike Gesicki led all tight ends at the combine with a run of 6.76 seconds. Goedert's time would have ranked just behind his for the position group in Indianapolis. Per Pauline, the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens all sent their tight end coaches to the SDSU pro day to check out what Goedert's offering.

Then I guess that Saints should trade down to grab Lamar Jackson and Rashaan Evans in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Those two didn't run 40s at the Combine or their pro day (days in Evans case) even though they were healthy.

Don't get the hate on goedert
Doesn't seem like the type to back down from a challenge.
He probably hadn't been able to train for the 40 with the hamstring.
You just don't go out and run the 40 you have to train.
Hamstring injuries are tricky.
So he goes out and runs a shite 40 cause he's hurt it won't matter then he will Def drop.
This was the smart move and it matters some but not as much as some are making it out to be.
The drills are more important how he catches the ball and moves.
This is probably going to move him into 2nd round but I think that s pretty much where he was always going to be picked

I mean is there no science that can take film and decipher how fast he is running between the 10's on all that film for all the pillow biters
Posted on 3/30/18 at 7:33 pm to goatmilker
I just watched his film from the north Dakota State game and wasn't super impressed.
Don't think we will pick him in the 1st just my opinion

Besides predicting for what the 10th year in a row a trade out of the 1st round I think everything points to a BPA pic. A CB or o-lineman etc that causes another draft day melt
Posted on 3/31/18 at 12:09 am to Chalkywhite84
Maybe not the 1st. What didn’t you like about his film? He looks like the smoothest receiver for a TE in this draft by a long shot

I'm beginning to dislike the idea of taking a TE at #27. I wouldn't be surprised if a single TE isn't drafted in the 1st round. We can probably trade into the mid 2nd round to take 1 of these guys. Maybe even late 2nd.
O-Line & DT are my favorite value positions at #27. I also like a couple of WR's & LB's.
WR - DJ Moore, Calvin Ridley
O-Line - Connor Williams, Kolton Miller, Will Hernandez, Isaiah Wynn, Billy Price, & James Daniels
DT - Da'Ron Payne, Taven Bryan, Maurice Hurst
LB - Leighton Vander Esch, Rashaan Evans (still not completely sold on Evans though)
Harold Landry & Arden Key might be there at 27, but I'm not sure I want to spend a 1st round pick on a guy that just rushes the passer. Not really sure about Landry, but Key could eventually develop into a 3-down DE. Still not sure if I'd take the chance in the 1st round though.
Also, CB is absolutely loaded in the early-mid 2nd round. We could trade back from 27 & easily get a good CB. Some of those O-Lineman will be there as well. As I said earlier...we should be able to get a TE too if we trade back.
