re: When did family vacations over Spring Break become a thing?

I think everyone's about covered it, but like they say, kids are out of school, so it's the only opportunity to vacation til summer. We usually go somewhere for spring break, summer, and fall or winter. Spring is a great time for certain vacations bc the weather is nice.

Seen better vacations in the quad

That’s not poor, that’s middle class. Poor people take one vacation every 10 years and it’s usually a discounted water park
You haven’t lived until your family vacation has included the Big Kahuna.

We take at least three vacations a year, plus a couple of extended 4 day weekends. Sorry you so po, bo.
We may be poor but putting that vacation money to work for 25 years has paid off! A double wide is twice as nice!

Or somewhere that you have to listen to a timeshare sales pitch before getting your free vacation.

Adults these days smh. When I was their age the only beach we went to was Normandy

Families taking vacations when kids are out of school and spring is a lot more comfortable to stand in long theme park lines than in June or July.

Quite the contrary. I knew ton of people who always went skiing over spring break and we went to Missouri and Tennessee a few times over spring breaks growing up. I was in middle school at the time.

Since half of the people who filed for bankruptcy seven years ago have gotten “rich” again.

You never went to the beach with your high school classmates for a few days without any parents around?
frick no, that shite wouldn't fly with my parents and they weren't even what I would consider strict.

We didn't really start doing actual vacations until later in high school. We lived about 4 hours from my grandparents, so many years when we were younger my mom would pick us up from school on Friday and drive straight there. We'd get there by dinner time. She would go back home after the weekend and we would spend the week with my grandparents. Then my parents bought a condo in Destin so we would hit it up any time we had a long weekend or a week out of school.
Now that my kids are school age, my wife will take them to see her dad and grandparents every year at spring break. They will usually have some cousins there to play with, and take them to the beach for a day. Advantage of them living in south Alabama is they can hit Panama City in 90 minutes and not have to deal with renting a place.

I think we took about 6 vacations my entire childhood ... and three of them were to the beach in Biloxi
We “summered” the same place we “wintered”, “autumned”, and “springed”

If you have kids in elementary school, then you likely have to take time off from work to be home with them. So if you have to take time off, why not go on vacation?
I don't think spring break is anything like summer, but I mean it makes sense to take time off.

Is this a problem for you? Are the parents interfering with your attempts to, uh, "befriend" their children??

When I was growing up we always went to Destin for Easter week. I never even considered it a "real" vacation... It was just what everyone did at Easter. About half my class was in Florida, the other half was in Colorado.
And yes, we went to Ft. Walton or Destin by ourselves every year of high school. We had 20 of us crammed in someone's parents condo and it was awesome. Drunk for 7 days straight 24/7.
Kids these days are soft. It doesn't surprise me they're not allowed on vacations with friends since they're not even allowed to walk around the block by themselves.
