When did family vacations over Spring Break become a thing?

When I was growing up, the only people I knew who took vacations over Spring Break were high school and college students, and they weren't going with their parents. Nowadays, it seems like most families I know are taking major vacations over Spring Break. I guess it's to prepare their kids for their even bigger vacation during the summer, sort of like a vacation appetizer.

Are you saying that people taking their elementary and middle school aged kids on vacation during spring break is a new thing?

We were poor growing up so we took one vacation a year. I would guess family’s with money take two vacations plus a year and a week off during the spring is a good time.

Families plan vacations for when their children are out of school. This shite isn’t new.

A better strategy is to take your kids out of school for trips in order to avoid the hordes.

High school kids go on their own vacations without their parents? That's a new one to me.

You never went to the beach with your high school classmates for a few days without any parents around?

We used to go camping at Toledo Bend during Easter Holiday, as it was correctly called.

That’s not poor, that’s middle class. Poor people take one vacation every 10 years and it’s usually a discounted water park

People in South Louisiana don’t realize what spring break is for families in other parts of the country. Mainly bc South Louisiana gets off work/school for Mardu Gras

Here in Houston, kids are off a week off school. It’s hard to make sales calls during SB bc everyone is on vacation or covering for someone else.

So Mardi Gras is your answer. And it’s not new

We did Spring Break in Destin for three years in high school. But we had at least 2 parents bring us each year. There is no other way to rent a place.

Dear mom and mom (or mom and dad, or dad and dad),

Y'all gotta pick up your game. Timmy's family goes on vacation during spring break.
