Chris Reid is having a nice season

Was told that he was a shitty fielder: 0 errors so far playing 2 positions
was told he was too slow to score runs: 8 runs so far in 10 starts, including 4 this past weekend in 2 starts.
has been on base 24 times in 10 starts. he has an OBP of .522 That is an incredible number. Being on base puts pressure on the other pitcher, and of course you can't score runs if you cant get on base.

He's not a bad fielder, he just has very limited range. That wouldn't show up in a box score.

no one said he was too slow to score runs, but he is slow. I'm sure Chris Reid would say the same thing.

he's always had a great OBP and no one has ever said any different.
The issue with Reid is he has a very low ceiling. Slaughter has a very high ceiling so of course Mainieri wanted Slauighter to figure it out. He gave Slaughter the chance but he wasn't getting it done, so Reid is a fantastic safe option to have to bring in.

Was told he was a terrible fielder. Errors were cited. He has zero errors so far.

sure, someone did.

his OBP has been devalued over and over again by people who do not understand its importance.

All that time spent running with you attached to his dick must have made him faster.

You don't have to insult me because you attached yourself to a shite argument. Was surprised to see that tbh. Do better

link? But he did have the lowest fielding % on the team the last year he started by a significant margin.
He had a .909 fielding %. The next worst among starters was Kramer at .948. Sample sizes are kind of relevant. Reid has only had 19 fielding opportunities so far this year

sure, someone did.
link? And do you want to know who the all-tome season record holder is for runs? Nathan Dunn. he was one of the slowest players on the team in 1996. Scoring runs doesn't determine if you are fast or slow. Eddy Furniss is 3rd all-time for a single season for christ's sake and 2nd for his career

no one devalues him being able to get on base. What people have said is that Slaughter has a lot more potential and if he can play up to his potential, Reid's OBP isn't as valuable as what Slaughter is capable of providing. No one has ever said OBP doesn't matter. But it is also not the end all be all either.

I’ve always lobbied for Reid to start at 3b, but OP is fighting with voices in his head. Reid has always been a fan favorite and everyone knows he’s the steady hand over there while slaughter is developing.
I’m happy for Reid, but also pulling for slaughter. Having a lot of good options is never a bad thing

Hunt Palmer had a great statistic comparing Reid’s freshman season and Slaughter’s freshman season. Reid had more extra basehits than Slaughter did.

No matter what Chris Reid is doing now (which I'm happy for, btw), I still believe that Slaughter has more potential.
Nothing about saying Chris Reid is a singles hitter with limited foot speed has been disproven.

How many balls has Reid put over the fence?

1 in 223 career ABs

Incorrect.

Scoring runs is only relevant to speed whenever you talk about scoring from second base. A very low percentage of times scoring from second result in plays at the plate

He's your fielding qupte

Everyone's single, solitary argument for Reid is his average/obp from 2 years ago. He's not faster. He's bad at fielding. He only hits singles (when he does hit) and his average his freshman year was from lots of garbage-time hits.
here's someone attempting to devalue a career .400 OBP
quote:
t's hard to score lots of runs when all you do is hit singles and you're slow.
quote:
So here's what you get with Reid AT HIS BEST: Someone who doesn't score runs or knock in runs
quote:
but he's too slow to get around to score without two hits or a HR or a walk + xtra base hit.
quote:
He doesn’t score runs. He doesn’t produce runs - RBIs. He doesn’t field well.

Wasn’t his one HR a ball that got stuck under the bullpen bench and he kept running while the fielder thought it was dead?

What does Slaughter bring to the team when he is in the lineup, in your opinion?
Posted on 3/19/18 at 1:47 pm to Lester Earl
Where do any of those quotes even mention OBP being devalued? Can Reid score from 2nd on a single? Can Reid score from third on a shallow pop fly into the outfield? can Reid stretch a single into a double? Probably not on any of those. Are you trying to say Reid isn't slow? Or is there another reason why he hasn't attempted a stolen base in his entire career? Even the Jordan brothers have managed to do that.
As to his fielding...he has had 19 fielding opportunities this season. Do you think that's a big enough sample size to say his .909 fielding percentage 2 years ago is behind him?

Slaughter has a career .350 slugging percentage in 200 ABs. That is well below average
