So now that some companies offer up to 8 weeks paid paternity leave, who here has done it and how did you handle your work taking all that time off?

8 week’s is a lot!

My job allows you up to 120 hrs of paid leave. I took 80 hrs and ran back lol.

What do you do for 8 weeks on paternity leave? Help take care of the kid for a couple weeks, then take a few strokes off your golf game?

If you're company gives you 8 weeks then take it. Help with the kid and fix things around the house. Take advantage of what they give you!

My husband's company does. He was planning on taking just 2 weeks, but he took the entire time little DP was in the NICU. I have no idea how I would have made it without him. Very grateful for the paid leave and understanding of his company and coworkers.

I believe this is an extreme minority. Most companies don't have anything and say use vacation or FMLA, but FMLA usually doesn't have any pay it just holds your job for 3 months.

8 weeks is pretty ridiculous, but good for you. A lot of mothers only get 6.

We have to use sick days and honestly 2-3 days would be the max without pissing them off.

8 weeks is a long time. Not sure if I would take a full 8 weeks. At least not fully. Maybe work from home or something.
My company started giving us 2 weeks paid leave. I'll definitely take all of that.
I took 2 weeks vacation for our first kid. It is nice not having to save vacation days for it.

We get 6 weeks. You best believe I'm taking it once I have an illegitimate baby.

8 weeks seems ridiculous. 2 weeks seems like it would be more than fair for paternity leave. Enough time to get settled back in at home with the baby and have dad helping out around the house and with the baby while mom recovers. Make exceptions for longer leave in cases where the baby and/or mother had issues or complications that cause longer hospitalization or recovery time than normal.

We had a guy on the rig that wanted paternity leave and we always called him snowflake

My wife works at a very pro-women company and she doesn't get paid maternity leave. They offer a short term disability package through Aflac but you have to be enrolled nine months prior to becoming pregnant we are starting to save now because she will be off for two months without pay. This is the one thing that Europe does right. Most countries there offer generous packages to dads and moms when there is a birth of a child. Otherwise, Europe is quite backwards.

First off, the people in this thread saying if you take 8 weeks off then that means you're expendable are wrong.
If your company gave you 8 weeks in your contract they did it to be competitive. Take that shite!
I have no kids and work for a company that gives dads 1 day. Most take a week off and we feel bad they have to do that. Dad's are just as important as Moms.

they don't. If you can take that much time off, youre very replaceable.

So we’re getting 8 weeks off and in the other thread talking about men not wanting sex. Are we developing vaginas? For fricks sake.

I got 6 weeks paid. I took two weeks when my daughter was born, went back to work, and now I have four weeks of time I can use for things like doctors appointments, holidays, etc.

Babies are a mom thing. I'd have paid to go back to work after a week
