What would it be and why?

Where would you stay?

Can’t pick one. I’ll give a top seven. I’ve been to all of these and several multiple times. No particular order.

St John
Anegada
Anguilla
St. Barth’s
St. Kitts and Nevis
Jost Van Dyke
Isla Mujeres

Honorable mention

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
Roatan

Top one on my list that I haven’t visited.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. Thomas (US, but 30 min boat rides to St John and Tortola)

Curacao (really charming, nice resorts, great shopping)

St. Johns in the Virgin Islands- With the hurricane last year I spent 3 weeks there and really fell in love with the people. Great time to go spend some money and enjoy beautiful beaches at probably a discounted rate.

Virgin Islands including St Thomas and St John. Great diving, weather and beaches.

The one destination in the Caribbean I'd like to visit is the Corn Islands off the coast of Nicaragua. From what I've read and seen, it seems like an idyllic location that's not been overrun by tourists and commercial development, especially Little Corn Island.

Why not St Thomas?? I am looking closely there as well as Turks & Caicos.

Had a vacation planned for St Croix in June, but nothing will be up and running there until October. Some resorts will be closed until 2019.

I, like the OP, would love some Caribbean suggestions. Don't want to go to Mexico, have done Costa Rica a few times. I will have teenagers in tow - yay.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I would like some mountain activities as well as beach stuff.

I've been to St thomas and turks and caicos. T&C is incredible, but St Thomas is the worst of the 3 UVI. St John is the best by far. Not that St Thomas is BAD, but St John is incredible.

Comparing St Thomas and T&C is laughable, T&C all day. But, St John over both of them.

Pretty much what buck said.

St. Thomas has more cruise ship traffic than any port in the world. That’s #1. Then you have an extremely seedy area right in Charlotte Amalie. Strike 2.

There are just far better islands to visit. I prefer to visit an island where they don’t say “once you turn the corner don’t cross the street. You don’t want to be there.”

That’s St. Thomas.

In my mind St. Thomas exists for one reason. To fly in, take a cab to Red Hook and get on the ferry to St John.

Been to St. Thomas, St. John, and Virgin Gorda. Agree with the posters above. ST has too many cruise ships and some shady areas. SJ is just gorgeous.

For sure. We did VRBO on Jost Van Dyke last June and had a great time. I’ve stayed on St John many times. A buddy has a condo that took some water damage in Cruz Bay and it’s been completely gutted and renovated. You have tons of good options on St John. Are you looking for party or quiet or both? Because you can have both. Unfortunately a lot of the lesser islands with resorts like Peter Island are going to be slower to recover so options are limited on those.

I’d probably suggest St John and then day trip to the BVI but Jost is also a good option although there aren’t nearly as many places to rent. I can put you in touch with my pal with the condo on St John. It’s in Grande Bay which is as good a location as you can get in Cruz Bay. He has a two bedroom with a lockout third bedroom so you can rent just the two. Just an option for you.

Not really the Caribbean but I would pick Exuma in the Bahamas. My family rented a house here last year and enjoyed it so much we are going back this year. It is a really laid back island that is not commercialized. If you are into the nightclub scene this is not the place for you. The water is the most incredible color of anywhere I have ever been. The fishing is great and I never felt not safe. The Hartswell area is a great place to stay. Check VRBO for houses and plan to rent a boat and you will have beaches all to your self.
Here is a quick video of a place for rent called Calypso Hill that will give you an idea of how beatiful it is.

A friend suggested the Osprey resort in Grand Turk. It looks nice, but the price has me wary. Anyone have experience there??

I just want to lay on the beach and not have people beg me for money while the rest of the family snorkels and explores.

I don't want to seem snotty, but when I'm on vacay, I don't want to interact with poor people. I do that too much in my regular life.

If I was going to Turks and Caicos I would go to Providenciales 100% of the time over Grand Turk. It's easier to get in and out of and you have 0 cruise ship traffic to deal with.

People don't beg on Turks and Caicos. You might want to research it more because it's nothing like Cancun or Jamaica.

VaBuckeye, looking for party and quiet. Does your buddies condo have any pics online, I’d like to run it by the other couple.

Plan is to stay 7 days in St John and rent a car for a few days and hit the beaches on St John. Then another day ferry to Jost and then another day ferry to one of the smaller islands. Then a day to rent a private charter and island hope and then one day to do a group island hopping boat . Any input/ideas/suggestions on that basic iteienary are welcome.

Pics will be up soon. They're waiting for the granite guy to finish up. The rest of the rehab is complete.

Cruzen Blue

Those pictures are pre Irma. I'll post a link when the new images are up. It got a total gutting so it looks brand new now.

Your plan on St. John sounds solid. Great beaches. You can always take a day and head over to the Coral Bay side and do lunch at Skinny Legs.

I'd rent from Steve or Marty at www.rockhoppin.com for the charter. They're both great guys and we charter with them every trip. Since you're ferrying to Jost I'd head out to Norman Island and do the Willy T if you want a crazy day. The new Willy T is expected to be in place by May. You should be able to head out to Virgin Gorda and hit Norman Island and the Willy T on the way back on your charter day. I have a ton of pictures from the old Willy T but I can't post them because I'd get banned. I did run into a bunch of LSU students there last year and had a blast with them.

Rockhoppin

You can rent a dinghy one day on St. John and hit some beaches. Nightlife is solid on St. John with Beach Bar, Joe's Rum Hut, etc.
