I would guess most of the schools allowing this are letting the students walk onto the athletic field or something.

I would hope that teachers aren't sending fourth graders onto the highway by themselves for 17 minutes.

What I meant was....if there is some pyschopath out there right now who has been contemplating a school shooting for whatever reason, and he hears about a nationwide walkout, don't you think that person would be intrigued about the possibility of all the kids being outside in the open in one place?

Things could end very poorly.

On a similar note, we are aware of the national movement to encourage students to walk out of school on March 14th at 10:00 a.m. to bring attention to school safety and security as well as to remember and honor the lives lost in school violence. We want to honor our daily commitment to you as parents to ensure that quality educational experiences that align to progress toward year-end goals are protected. As such, please join us in encouraging your child to cooperate with their principals and teachers to ensure safety, order, and educational goals are not compromised on March 14th as well as any day while at school. We are confident that, with your help and support, our students will continue to have good memories of their K-12 educational experiences. Of course, as their parent, if you would like for your child to express their position on these issues in ways that don't align with our priorities for safety, order, and quality educational experiences, certainly feel free to exercise your right and privilege to check them out of school as you support them in other activities. Student absences, check outs and behavior on March 14th will be handled as they are any other day of the school year. Absences will be coded appropriately as per our attendance policies and practices, and behavior will be handled per our Student Handbook of Rights, Responsibilities and Discipline Policy.
