He’s not wrong

Augusta has some above average width fairways

I mean, I would say iron play and putting is far more crucial at Augusta than driving accuracy as long as you're hitting it long.

It's not like the US Open where you're completely fricked on some holes if you miss the fairway

Everyone always says Augusta is a 2nd shot course, have to be on the right part of the green or you’re dead.

Peej, tiger is back, and he's going to win at Augusta.

Ill take the field..... He is looking good but he is NOT BACK... Paul Casey finished at 10 under Sunday and gave Tiger A number to shoot for with like 6 holes remaining... The old Tiger would have at least forced A playoff....

The Arnold Palmer should tell us a bit more.

Augusta is a bit weird.

Your 2nd shot is really important because you REALLY need to be on the right part of the greens. Get too far from the cup and 2 putting becomes incredibly hard.

Because if that, being in the fairway is great. But they're pretty wide and you can take rips off the tee. So it's not all that tough of a driving golf course.

I have an eerie feeling that he's going to be exhausted this week and have a poor showing.

But I will add that Jack won a major at 46 and Watson should have at 59,

Yeah that British Open, it seemed like he had it in the bag.

Oldest British Open champ - 46
Oldest US Open Champ - 45
Oldest Masters Winner - 46
Oldest PGA winner - 48

Tiger realistically has about 4 years to win 5 majors. Phil won 5 his entire career.

5% to win even one major. Less than one percent to break the record.

Now we're being realistic

That was his plan... He knew he could drive it 330 every hole but chose to use his skills with another club..........

Now if Tiger had Phil's short game he'd have a chance.

Do what?

Tiger has one of the best short games in history. Not to mention he can putt circles around Phil. Not taking anything away from Phil at all

You do not have to be that accurate with your driving at Augusta.

He’s right about that. Not sure where the misconception of driving accuracy being a key to winning at Augusta came from. Sure it helps, but there is always someplace you can miss it and the rough isn’t penal. You have to be precise with shots into the green and around the green complexes, which Tiger has done extremely well during the past two tournaments. He definitely has more than a punchers chance at Augusta.

There are holes at Augusta that accurate driving is CRUCIAL..... Esp to take advantadge of the par 5's........

Why is that funny? The fairways are very wide, and there's not a single hole on Augusta other than 13 where there is a hazard or OB in realistic play off the tee. Every other hole you pretty much have the chance to put yourself by the green in two (or three for par 5s) and at least give yourself a chance to get up and down.

Look at some of the best players at Augusta: Phil, Jordan, Tiger. None that accurate off the tee.

Augusta is absolutely a second shot golf course. Dukke is just spouting nonsense in this thread.

I understand the probabilities and not willing to change the math when discussing percentages, but I'm also unwilling to say that Tiger Woods can't do what Tom Watson did.

The hardest part was recovering from a 4th back surgery and wanting to still compete at the level we saw this past wknd

Jack won Augusta at 46 b/c it's his track. Watson almost won The Open at 59 b/c he won it 6 times. Tiger owns Augusta too and I would NEVER count him out at St Andrews, which is the most frequent venue for The Open.

Still improbable, but let's see what happens if and when he gets one more major. Hell, I want him to make the Ryder Cup this year b/c I'll be there. LOL

For sure. I just used those guys because they're good at Augusta basically every year. Bubba's pretty inconsistent. Definitely could have added Bubba to the list.

It doesn't hurt to be straight off the tee, but you definitely don't have to be to win.
