We often hear Americans tell one another how great america is. Although nice, it’s kind of what’s expected and kind of cliche about the things we hear....”freedom, opportunity, great military”.

I’m traveling in Danang, VN. The USS Carl Vinson was visiting for a few days. The Vietnamese locals would come and watch the super carrier in awe. They knew more about the ship than I did...the dimensions, men on board, that it was nuclear powered, bin laden body was dropped into the sea.

The part that remember most was two elder men talking about how the US is capable to create, built, and do anything. I can hear the respect from their voices. They went on to say that the Chinese tried to copy the US with regards to the supercarrier but they ended up building an inferior ship. They added that without US creativity and innovation, China wouldn’t be able to do shite. They were happy with the US presence to stablilize the region in the South China Sea because the Chinese are trying to be a Bully and own the territory. Man, they really hate the Chinese.

Also, sailors from the ship visited a shelter with victims of Agent Orange. That was nice of them. US is about to spend 500 mil on a 10 year project that will clean the soil of Agent Orange.

This is why we will always be a few steps ahead of the Asian countries.

We encourage thinking outside of the box.

Most euros I meet in my travels admire the US. The English can be a little dismissive..... But the best way to piss off an Englishman is to call him a euro.

I will say this about the Vietnamese people that have immigrated to the U.S. They have, in general, worked their asses off to provide for themselves and acculturate themselves into U.S. society.
They despise the "food stamp, do-nothing, dindu" culture that they find in the big U.S. cities.
The first generations still stick to themselves but we see their second and third generations in our schools and hospitals. The work ethic is amazing-I wish my kids has worked half as hard as I've seen these Vietnamese kids do..

Rant.....

TL/DR. The Vietnamese are a + for our country.

Nah, that's the second best way to piss off a Brit.

The best way is to call him an Irishman.

Another thing that separates us is that we are a country that is filled with a ton of diversity.

They fought a short, but very bloody border war with China in the seventies.

Much to the chagrin of 49.5% of the country.

I hired a Vietnamese guy when I was at SLB

He came over at 16 and had already graduated from HS. He went to two years of American HS, graduated and went to ULL. He finished with honors in ChemE while learning English

Amazing guy
