Go for it. You'd be the first one to actually have an informed opinion of Carter in a long time.

I think most people have a pretty good clue.
1. Russian grain embargo.
2. 1980 Moscow Olympic boycott, which was single handedly responsible for their payback at the 1984 LA Olympics.
3. Literally everything about the Iran debacle from start to finish. The failed rescue attempt is an indictment of the sorry state of readiness out military has sunk to.
4. US home interest rates went from 8 3/4 when he took office to almost 15 when he left. You can't blame that on Ford/Nixon...rates didn't really start to take off until Carter's 3rd year in office.
LINK
5. Sustained, sky high inflation. Yeah, there was a spike in 1974, but again, it wasn't until Carter's third year that they climbed and stayed for a prolonged period. Again, you can't blame Ford/Nixon for that.
Average inflation rates:
1973: 6.2
1974: 11.0
1975: 9.1
1976: 5.8
1977: 6.5
1978. 7.6
1979: 11.3
1980: 13.5
1981: 10.2
1982: 6.3
1983: 3.2

Carter didn't install the Shah in a CIA coup. Carter didn't give Pahlavi cancer.
Cater didn't turn Pahlavi over to the radical Muslims who wanted to kill him.
Carter crafted a deal to release the hostages that's still in effect today.

Curiously there were two major periods of high inflation in the 70s, 1974-75, and 1979-80, both coincide with major disruptions in crude oil.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say he was great, but that he's not the monster everyone says, and wasn't near as bad as Nixon - or LBJ. One thing is, and young people today will find it hard to believe, but the media hated him.
shite, it's 5.
Lata.

Got a list?
Would you compare that list to a similar one for Nixon?
I'm not arguing that Nixon gets a pass for stuff that happened and Carter doesn't but we have to face reality as presented us ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE, and the reality was Carter was simply an ineffective POTUS with regards to all the bad shite that happened during that term as eloquently listed in a previous post and that ineffectiveness was reflected and justified by his incredibly close Democratic primary battle with TED KENNEDY OF ALL PEOPLE and resounding defeat to Reagan in 1980 I mean the dude escalated the Cold War by ending detente with the Soviets and his Fed Chair appointee's loose monetary policy contributed to high inflation I'm not coming at this from a partisan perspective, I'm coming at this from an objective, open-minded perspective and that's how these people ought to be judged to be fair

Obama divided the country with his lies of "hope and change" long before Trump even decided to run.

3. Trump - Lowest approval rating, pick a source
His approval ratings are at 50%

5. Trump - Just ain't done shite
Largest Tax reform in history.
Unemployment at historic low.
Most amount of executive orders and regulations repealed.
Removed the mandate effectively ending Obama Care.
Got us out of Paris accord.
Stopped giving away billions of dollars to Iran.

May God give you the power to research the objective instead of equating Trump's actions as POTUS to "Just ain't done shite" because it objectively is FALSE

Got us out of Paris accord.(Meaning exactly what)
Stopped giving away billions of dollars to Iran. (To use it to build a useless wall)

but it is crazy to rank him worse than Hoover and Buchanan.
Now go back to celebrating teenage deaths and begging the Trumpkins to like you.

quote:I like you, dev. I really do. But I don't get why you keep on making these blanket, widely generalizing statements about half of American voters. Are there bad people on both sides of the aisle? Sure, but they are a fringe. I think the vast (95% and up) of people on both sides of the aisle have the same goals, they just disagree on how to get there.
Trump and the circumstances surrounding his Presidency have probably divided the country for the remainder of the older generation's life span. I count a opportunistic nationalist bringing out the very worst of what this country has to offer in high esteem. Hence the ranking.
You can choose to live in paranoia and fear that a significant portion of America wants to get you or bring down the country...I refuse to believe that, because my own personal life has shown me time and time again that most people are good hearted.
I think you need to stop watching the daily show or colbert or whatever, where they show you caricatures of southerners, midwesterners, working class people, etc. I think if you went to some of these small towns, you'd be surprised at the genuine agreements you'd have with them about what their vision for America is.
You would rightfully be upset if I generalized black inner cities as places where everyone is violent, lazy, on welfare, hopeless, "the worst of America", etc.
Those "worst of America" that you mentioned in your post...many of them, millions in fact, were solid dems before 2016, just look at some midwest areas and counties...trump was first repub to win them since the 1920s.
quote:This country has been divided looooonnng before trump. And don't sit there and say he caused it....both sides are equally complicit in the division, because both sides make caricatures of the other side, assume the worst of them, in order to feel good and safe about their own beliefs system.
rump and the circumstances surrounding his Presidency have probably divided the country for the remainder of the older generation's life span.
I see absolutely NO EFFORT by you to seek to heal the division. Instead you make vague generalizations about trump voters being the "worst of what we have to offer". Despicable.

Amen brother, you are a great American and maybe one day Michigan will win another NCAA men’s basketball championship after all this time

quote:Initiated? No. Exacerbated it/Brought it to a head? Hell yes. We have a POTUS trolling the internet playing down to the weakest among us. Blaming immigrants, foreigners, but never holding a certain type of person accountable.
This country has been divided looooonnng before trump. And don't sit there and say he caused it.

both sides are equally complicit in the division

Dude, combine your desperate attempts at absolution with Trump voters with your love of teenage death celebration threads I really don't give a frick what you find despicable.

Think of the SEC rant. If you were at a bar in Atlanta on Saturday filled with SEC fans, would you be shite talking like sec-ranters do?

An ineffective President can’t be the worst President, simply because they didn’t have enough of an impact. The worst Presidents are the ones that remove power from people to the Federal Government.
Abraham Lincoln - He went to war with half of his own country. More Americans died in battle than all other wars combined. I will never believe that a peaceful resolution was impossible. His reign his the reason for federal domination over state rights.
LBJ - The Great Society has destroyed families and created generations of uneducated and unmotivated citizens. The level of social destruction is unmeasurable.
Woodrow Wilson - Early in his administration he passed several laws that gave massive economic powers to the Federal Government. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913, the Revenue Act of 1913, and the Federal Trade Commission Act.
FDR - Raised taxes to historically high levels. The New Deal programs were loaded with government giveaways that are still causing huge liabilities in our Federal Budget to this day. This guy was the author of wealth distribution. To cap it all off he broke the tradition set by Washington by serving more than two terms.
Obama - Created more debt in eight years than all the US Presidents before him combined. Passed the Affordable Healthcare Act that gave unprecedented powers to the Federal Government to shape and control healthcare.
