I was a 14 year old sitting in south upper section right above where Jones threw the TD to Davis. Perfect view of the play.
Pandemonium! My big brother (an LSU student) started kissing the girl next to him who he didn’t even know.
I knew right then I was going to LSU when I grew up.

I wasn't much older than you; I was only 18.
At any age, though, that was one for the ages!

I see hardly mentioned but was a great play. For obvious reasons, largely forgotten

I think regardless of how exciting the play was, it's ready for people to forget about that in games we lost.

Are you kidding me?? Billy Cannon's punt return against Ole Miss. I was 11 years old sitting on the 49 yard line on the east side. I didn't really "see" it because everyone was taller and they stood up. I was a few feet from the isle and leaned/crawled over to the isle to get a glimpse and saw a flash of him running by.
There sure has been some great plays in Tiger Stadium but that has the be the pinnacle.

I loved the mauck to green play but if I remember right I thought the Cory Webster int was much more significant. I remember our defense at that point was getting burned and everyone thought we scored to early and green was going to drive back down the field. I was a kid at that game and that was the play that sticks in my mind and always will. I went from nail biting to insane crazy kid yelling in seconds. Crazy swing in emotion. Prob much like that Tennessee game with like 20 OT

Since you were in the band in the early ‘70’s do you remember how you guys would play a song at the end of every game called “The Stripper “ that sounded like a burlesque tune and the Golden Girls would dance along seductively to the song?
Me and my teenage buddy used to hustle over to the student section as soon as the game ended to get a close up look at the Golden Girls while they swayed to the song.
Adolescent memories!

That was an awesome play Webster made, but even if they would have scored a TD, they would have just tied it. The TD came with 1:30 or so left and it would have been a 50+ yard FG attempt if we wouldn't have gotten the 1st down.

Mike Patrick: “4th down. LSU wins or loses on this play, it would appear....”

TigerFred won this thread a long time ago. Some great plays mentioned, though. The Mauck yo Green is one of my favorites I was there for.

The 4th down fake to Deangelo Peterson against Bama in 2010 was one of my faves too from the last time we beat Bama in Tiger Stadium. It was a great design and executed perfectly too. Even JJ completely committed and took out a defender downfield.

If Beckwith runs left instead of to the right he might have scored.

I was 11, watching that at my uncles, and not super into college football at the time. I remember the play and how excited everyone was, but didn't get the signficance of it till I was older.
i was 8 and in the stadium.
like you, i knew it was big by the reaction of everyone around me and i was excited because LSU won, but i had no clue just how big it was until i was much older.
