High School level lacrosse is rocking & rolling in the Pelican State.
We are now a few weeks into the season & after today's big road W for 2017 defending state champs St. Pauls over St. Thomas More in Lafayette today, this year's title is now all but St. Paul's to lose.
Early predictions have Caddo Magnet coming out of the North District, STM out of the West, & St. Paul's in the East with Jesuit likely the 4th in the Final 4 to take place at STM in late April.
The game continues to grow here in LA as Hackett Cummins is heading to NCAA D1 Furman:

It’s a non-sanctioned league

It's a pretty racist sport. It's played almost exclusively by white men from the northeast. It's perfect for the trumpkins of the world who are scared of black football players. Not a surprise that its growing in the south.

It's getting big in many states you wouldn't think would play. I know locally they went from just the private/catholic schools playing to now full HS schedules and divisions, and now kids are getting scholarships to Syracuse, Maryland, etc
Crazy how fast it took off, but really it's a cheap sport with just a stick, ball, and 2 nets. Unlike hockey, which is super expensive.

Except you need like 10+ balls to play the game outdoors, otherwise there’s a TON of stoppage time

so question... how much does it cost to outfit a kid? a team? where do they play? what NOLAish schools play it?
how many teams are needed before LHSAA sanctions it?

That shite is more popular than high school football up here on Virginia. Soccer with a basket connected to a stick.

Adding more teams every year. Youth is growing like wild fire as well.

Yes, you need a good 2 dozen balls to play an effective/efficient game. LA teams are properly fundraising/supported at this point to handle the basic & above basic needs for hosting games. It's been great to watch it grow since the late 90s/early 2000s.

Price varies as equipment brands/value varies. Ranging from $250/$300-$500+. However that equipment will last you many seasons, often an entire HS career.
NOLA:
Brother Martin (on campus)
Jesuit (on campus) multi-year state champs
St. Paul's (on campus) 2017 State Champs, front runner for 2018 repeat.
Holy Cross (I believe on campus)
Northshore (community based program)
Mandeville (on campus)
Isidore Newman (I believe on campus
Lower Alabama (not sure of their set-up)
Pascagoula (not sure of their set-up)
My slightly educated guess is that LA will need well over 75 teams playing consistently before considering state sponsorship. For comparison, FL has 221 teams playing & it has been state sponsor in the FHSAA for over 2 decades now. Texas has 35 playing Div 1 HS level & 71 playing Div 2 HS level & is not state sponsored.

Jim Brown.....who held the NFL record for rushing yards for many many years......before he did all of that, finished his career at Syracuse as an All-American lacrosse player.

Also the 1st & for the longest time the only African American college athlete inducted into 2 college sports Hall(s) of Fame: college football + college lacrosse.

If Lacrosse switched to being a Fall sport you'd see some real damage done to high school football.

In regards to Jim Brown it has been said that Lacrosse was his favorite sport. He is also regarded as the greatest player ever.

Lacrosse is a spring sport that competes with baseball.
I am told that in Texas, where rec sports like baseball are administrated by school districts, the number of baseball teams are going down while the number of lacrosse teams are going up.
