How do so many Americans have a fundamental misunderstanding of the 2nd amendment?

I see the “the founders NEVER would’ve expected fully automatic 5.56 assault clips that can shoot 20 rounds per clip second” argument so much from liberals, and it’s so irrelevant.
First of all, semi automatic weaponry was in production several hundred years before the Bill of Rights. Fully automatic multi barreled machine guns were also in production. Even muskets were absolute killing machines back then, and they still allowed citizens to own them.
That myth aside, the lethality of weapons doesn’t even matter because the 2nd Amendment was drafted specifically to allow civilian weaponry to be on par with our military’s small arms. For a bunch of liberal blue haired Taco Bell workers to call the foresight of the founding father into question is laughable. They EASILY could’ve included a clause in the 2nd amendment that had congress revisit the amendment every time new weapons tech came out. But again, they didn’t, and it was for a reason.
The entire purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to allow the citizens of the United States to compete with a government equipped fighting force, and we need AR-15’s to do that. The phrase “good times create soft men” couldn’t be more relevant than it is right now, we’re a society of soft men who are writing off the lessons that the founders learned through years of bloodshed and revolution because they think that tyranny and war could never find its way to American soil again.

It's also complete bullshite. Semi-automatic weapons were around long before the Second Amendment was inked.

And let’s not forget the fact that almost all of them were alive in 1836 when a guy named Samuel Colt came along and changed the game just a little bit. They easily could’ve spoken up and said themselves that they didn’t foresee hand held guns that could fire multiple rounds without a reload coming along and done something to revise the amendment. Why didn’t they I wonder...? Possibly because they WANTED the people to have highly destructive weapons?

We also have no one to bail us out. All these other countries... Australia, UK, etc., can chide us knowing that they have the luxury of Uncle Sam coming to bail their arse out if things every go south within their own government. We have no one to look to but ourselves.

The founders knew exactly what they were doing on all matters. From the constitution to the federalist papers they fully understood what a free society should look like. Every following generation chose to pervert what they created until we are where we are.

Only can radical leftists twist what was truly the greatest document ever written by possibly the most intelligent, experienced, and educated collection of human beings ever assembled into a Stone Age paper written by a bunch of Neanderthals who didn’t ever expect guns to exist. It’s amazing.
But I’m sure that bald 16 year old psycho girl who was screaming about guns knows more about how to effectively run a society than Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and John Adams combined.

It's such a silly point, and worse, it's completely wrong. I hope that more and more, we don't let that go unchallenged. This is how we defeat that nonsense. Transparency and education.

The citizenry was the militia. It was the most cost effective means of common defense. And it served as augmentation to the police force (generally only one person in a small township). They had to be properly armed to perform these essential civic duties. In many instances they were required by law to own a firearm. In today’s society we have professionalized both of these essential services. But we have not repealed the Second Amendment. If they want to re-frame the argument then change the Constitution.

You are absolutely 100% wrong, and that’s possibly the dumbest interpretation of the second amendment I’ve ever seen. The 2nd Amendment was very clearly written to keep the government in check and to give the citizens the ability to revolt in case of a tyrannical leader taking hold or defend the country in case of a foreign invasion, considering the fact that they literally just got done fighting a revolution against a tyrannical government while they were framing our constitution. It had very little to do with a day to day police force of all things.

my thoughts and prayers go out to you and all the people on the right at the thought of (even though it will never happen) losing your precious guns.

If true, you're already defeated, unless you interpret small arms to include tanks, grenades, missiles, armed ships, planes etc. Your AR-15 will be like a pea-shooter.
Your argument doesn't hold up.

I am not losing my guns dumbass. I just understand the historical precedent for why we have them. Help yourself out;
Tracts, concerning the ancient and only true legal means of national defence, by a free militia: by Granville Sharp
It is only 160 pages. Even you should be able to understand it. If you understand the history of England, our own colonization and the French and Indian War you will begin to understand the necessity for the 2nd Amendment.
But keep being that brilliant guy you are.

Here is another one for the brilliant;
10 U.S. Code § 246 - Militia: composition and classes
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are—
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
You are supposed to have a firearm dumbass. It is not to be on par with the military. It is to be the militia.

Yeah, because the government is gonna come and kills us all witht their guns.
Some of you live in John Wayne dreamland.Yeah, they are gonna come like guerillas (Vietnam war style) and kill people house to house. Better have those guns ready boys!
Like they could not take everything over by simply shutting off the electricity, internet/phones and sewage for three days and poisoning the water supply. Just three days is all it would take. A few million (like three million or so) dead and resitance would end.
Stop it with your guns is gunna proctect us nonsense. Tney won't protect you when you have no water amd medicine and 911 does not work.

Here's my obligatory "Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam say hello" response to this same stupid fricking argument.
