honestly, and I can't believe I am saying this.
But I trust the government over poor people on the dole....
I have seen with my own eyes, food stamp purchase in front of me --- hundreds of dollars. Not enough money.. Do the cokes, and candy, and potatoe chips come off? Nope, the milk, eggs, and bread........ they don't need that shite I guess.
Those airheads though.... what are they saying now....
the freedom of the ingredient??

My wife worked as many hours as her job allowed before we got married, often working the crappiest shifts. She was still eligible for food stamps.
And she'd still be eligible for a food box.
At least with the box, the people trying to defraud the system will still have good, healthy food to feed their kids. That's not the case when they sell it or misuse it.
I could give a shite about their dignity. I'm more concerned about people being hungry.

Nothing about my stance or my post is about defending food stamps over the food box initiative. I'm okay with the food boxes, and outlined in an earlier post that before I say it's a good idea or bad idea depends on the end result and level of government growth required to implement it.
My point is that when you just immediately point to a person on food stamps and scream "parasite", you're missing some facts. You don't know them.
If you say, "I want to change the system because it is poorly designed and easily corruptible" then I agree.
If you say, "All people on food stamps are leeches" or "All people on food stamps are scum" then you demonstrate a lack of understanding that means you should probably remove yourself from the discussion.

Dan Quayle? I was wondering where you had gotten yourself off to.

I agree. To get the full facts you generally need to scream "criminal" and "drug addict" as well

Because if other areas are like my area, the unscrupulous ones can sell their food stamps for cash and supplement their food pantry with food from the several "God's Food Box" and other charitable outlets that are physically present in my area.
If FedGov gave them physical food, that would deprive them of a cash income source.

They can spend their entire entitlement on beer and Lucky Charms, for all I care.
I’m not in the least bit interested in policing someone’s shopping basket.
The issue is waste and corruption.
Something innovative must be done to address the cesspool that is the food stamps program.

I'm not sure but I saw an interview of a food bank volunteer who attempted to explain how giving out boxes of food was undignified. He gave the interview while packing boxes of food. Cracked me up.

Why not just pass a law restricting EBT purchases to non-crappy foods.
We just need to do EBT like WIC. You can only buy what the government says you can buy.

You can disagree with my reasoning all you want. The question is, should people getting EBT/SNAP/Food Stamps have any say in what they get or how it is GIVEN to them?

Too many problems. Would be cheaper and easier to just tweak current system. Whole host of problems would emerge: the food itself would have to be non-perishable, which limits the healthy foods that can be included a la fruits and veggies. Storage systems. Delivery would be a nightmare, especially for those who are homeless and or move all the time. Prime for tampering/whole other legal problems. Costs are certainly going to be higher.
One of those things that you think, “oh that makes sense”, until you actually get into the weeds of how it would work, or not work rather

I do wanna figure out how motherfrickers are driving $50k SUVs and have EBT cards though. That shite pisses me off lol
Partially because people with money buy the EBT cards at 2:1 rates. They pay $250 (sometimes less depending on how desperate they are) for a $500 dollar card. People with cash get double what they paid for and poor people get money for drugs, liquor, and smokes with the $250.
Others have just figured out a way to scam the system all together.

Well, not to belabor the point, but they do have a say (in how they vote).
That being said, no, they shouldn't have a say beyond that. The government is giving them something - they shouldn't use that incorrectly or fraudulently.
It amazes me that in our era of electronic systems we still cannot have it tied in to the register to the point where the EBT comes back and says, "$12.07 of your $38.98 is paid for, the remaining items are not eligible - please remit payment for the remaining items".

It has become a cottage industry for some. You can actually have a comfortable life if you maximize all the benefits.
Truth. The ideal lifestyle for the majority of people I know on government assistance is to get on welfare and collect as much money as you can by purposely not having/looking for job, claim as many kin folks kids you can, do a bit in jail which is basically an all inclusive vacation (they are used to low standard of life), put everything you buy in someone else's name, mooch off everyone around you.
Zero responsibility and the only worry is you hope someone else has claimed your cousins kids that you claimed. PROFIT!

Don't know, I thought the big issue in these Urban areas was food deserts where people have to shop at 7/11 and live off pixie sticks. You want to change that and give them real food instead of money that they will then trade for 25¢ on the dollar to buy drugs and booze? Racist

Depends on the level of crime. I can tell you, living on the streets > a medium or maximum security prison. I worked in one for a year, and about the only benefit above being homeless is that they will feed you.
