That future, according to Ovadya, will arrive with a slew of slick, easy-to-use, and eventually seamless technological tools for manipulating perception and falsifying reality, for which terms have already been coined — “reality apathy,” “automated laser phishing,” and "human puppets."

“We are so screwed it's beyond what most of us can imagine,” he said. “We were utterly screwed a year and a half ago and we're even more screwed now. And depending how far you look into the future it just gets worse.”

This summer, more than one million fake bot accounts flooded the FCC’s open comments system to “amplify the call to repeal net neutrality protections.” Researchers concluded that automated comments — some using natural language processing to appear real — obscured legitimate comments, undermining the authenticity of the entire open comments system. Ovadya nods to the FCC example as well as the recent bot-amplified #releasethememo campaign as a blunt version of what's to come. "It can just get so much worse," he said.

Once again Alex Jones proves to be far ahead of his time.

Computers- nature of the beasts, so I was told in seventh grade back in '64.

It really is frightening. And it all just plays on human nature of us wanting to reinforce our own beliefs.
Just look at how many people fall for obvious photoshops. Now they have the technology to "photoshop" videos. If the video tells them what they want to hear, they are not going to check to see if its real or not. They will believe that it is real because they want to believe that it is real.
And when they hear something that is real, you can just now say "well that is fake" because the technology to fake it exists.
We all have all the information we want or need available to us, but we are all still be manipulated by that information.
I'm quickly approaching the point of apathy, which, as the author points out, is a huge problem with the majority of society feels that way. It is how society get taken over.
Fun times ahead.

Meh the propaganda the mass media spews is way more dangerous than any tech bots.

People are stupid/gullible enough already; any technology is way overkill

the lower-intelligence segments of society are the ones most likely to be swayed, which means tyranny of the majority will take on new meanings

A high IQ is not a defense against practical audio and video magic. The only solution to that kind of disillusionment is to drop out of society proper.

can you not be so goddamn offended all the time and try to understand what the article is discussing?
it is a legit point and is something that should concern everyone

If you read that entire article, and the only thing that you took away from is "they only singled out Trumpkins", then yes, you are offended.
This is really the most interesting topic posted today, but nobody seems to want to discuss it. This upsets me.
