You're letting taste preclude objectivity. I despise the Beatles and Beck but.... I know they are/were good at what they do.. You need to watch a lot of available footage on some of these older stars in the studio.

I gathered your age based on prior posts. This is still a preference for entertainment and not a reflection on his talent as a musician.
I would have never sat through a live show of Etta James nor Adele. I think their emotions were/are contrived and fake.
I think Avril Lavigne has more passion in her self written ballads.
But... I know who's more talented.

I saw every home LSU game last year. And 20 or so HS marching bands last weekend. I heard All of the Lights by Kanye about 20 times in last 365 dsys. Let that sink in... Kanye is still making millions for prior work.
