Where did you learn another language?

And I'm talking about being fluent in it.

I learned Russian and Serbo-Turbo at the DLI.

Polish from my wife and Emory University night classes.

I spent a lot of time overseas and learned to get myself fed, get a beer, get some work done, and a few curse words. My inappropriate use of the curse words was quickly blamed on a local when I offended somebody.

I went to Hawaii, I was really worried about the language barrier, but I picked it up really quickly, so there I guess.

I learned French at LSU, “perfected” it (lol) in France. Now I’m learning Spanish, in Spain.

Wonder what it would take to get Ebonics to become a globally recognized language

I appreciate you copying off my thread. Anyway, I learned Spanish in school and I usually use websites/books to teach myself all the other languages I've learned. Another great way to learn is listening to songs and interviews in other languages to see if you can pick up on the words.

I learned Spanish while I studied abroad in Spain and Argentina. While living in Argentina, I lived a bunch of Brazilians. I learned Portuguese from them.

I spent a year in France for work, so I learned French there.

While in Spain, I made plenty of friends from Catalonia. So I picked up on Catalan pretty quickly. It was like a mix of Spanish and French. I then found some series in Catalan that I liked and became more fluent from watching that.

My mom is from the Philippines, so I taught myself Tagalog. The Spanish really helped in learning Tagalog although they're two really different languages.

I'm conversational in German and Italian.

My mother and her family is fluent in French and my dad and his family is fluent in Spanish. I am not a scholar in either language but I know enough to get by. I am much more competent in Spanish though.

I can speak French conversationally and I can read it pretty well. I don’t really consider myself fluent yet, but I can get by. I also know smatterings of Spanish and German.
