Is there an undisclosed back story to the Patrick Surtain flip?

There is more to the Patrick Surtain decision to choose Alabama than has been released. No doubt Surtain had a long standing offer from Alabama yet he stated LSU was " his school " all along for years. Then suddenly on the eve of national signing day. Alabama was the place to be.

He claims he broke down in tears on Tuesday night when he made his decision. Something was going on internally likely involving his father. This was clearly not a happy decision. He haad amuch stronger reltionshipw with Corey Raymond and the LSU staff than any connections at Alabama.

So what really happened? There is more backstory to this sudden flip that has not leaked out yet. It is clear the young man wanted to be at LSU and there was some undisclosed pressure that caused him to choose Alabama. Has the father always resented that LSU did not recruit him? Was he offered a position at Alabama which will materialize in the next few months?

The young man claims he chose Alabama because they win championships. This suddenly dawned on him on Tuesday night? If that was the case he would have been much more involved with Alabama alll along over the last few years.

Most likely he was pressured by his father and / or his family to make a choice he rally did not want to make. Of course Saban is a master at working the minds of young recruits and was able to use this leverage to his advantage.

Another convenient excuse for 0. Weird how nothing is ever his fault.

I was hoping something would be revealed when I clicked this thread. That being said, you're probably right. I put nothing past Alabama.

I think it finally sank in that he would be turning down Nick Saban for Ed Orgeron.

It doesn't fricking matter. He didn't want to come here is all we need to know.

The recruiting staff should've been better prepared for this possibility, rather than trusting the word of an 18 year old.

A substantial monetary advance to Mister Surtain's newly open undisclosed New York, New York bank account perhaps?

Awful click bait thread title that leads us on and has absolutely no new information.

You should feel ashamed.

Dude, Saban didn't wait around until the final hour before finalizing his list

He told Surtain at some point he was moving on, and Surtain agreed to the scholly. He cried because he was a puss about having to finally tell LSU that he had strung them along, for so long

He had to be committed to "flip"

Just face it, the kid wants to play for championships not citrus bowls. It's really not hard to comprehend.

It's more likely he saw Alabama win another championship in the last month and wants to be part of the winning culture. Meanwhile, at LSU, we ran off the splash OC after one year and lost in the bowl due to terrible goal line management. The two programs are in different realms right now.

why is it hard to accept that a kid would rather play for a proven, championship team that has the best coach and provides the best opportunity

O is not that guy, SE is not that Guy and if we are not careful Aranda will have to leave us to keep his reputation in tack

I hate to lose good recruits but there is not need to fabricate stories about why we lost them.

We all know why key recruits decided to leave.

Meh. The greatest college football coach in history who just won yet another natty says "come play for me", vs. Farmer Fran saying "we comin". Is it really a choice?

It was Surtains choice to go to Alabama. I don’t agree with his timing of telling LSU late the nite before signing day, very unprofessional of him. LSU did all they could and I can’t fault Orgeron for telling other kids he didn’t have a scholarship for them, rather than lying about it and stringing them along. That sounds like a move Bama makes, distasteful. I just wonder what he’s gonna do when Saban leaves for Indianapolis Colts

And there have been kids that were pressured by family to come to LSU that didn't want to be here.

It happens at every school.

The kid picked a school dedicated to winning.
